Rexton Trax 42 receiver wire broke

Bought these about 6 years ago at Costco. Very pleased with both the service at Costco and the hearing aid. Met my needs mainly high frequency loss. No problems until recently when one aid stopped working. Went to Costco they diagnosed the above problem. Said they didn’t have the receiver and couldn’t fix it and that they didn’t think Rexton would repair it. Didn’t seem interested in trying.

I started looking at new hearing aids and came here for the latest scoop on what was available. But at the same time looked at EBay and found the in-ear receiver Connexx 3ML which is the one I needed. Purchased for $29 and was able, thanks to YouTube, to figure out how to install the new one. Not difficult. Did that, hearing aid seems to be working fine after installation.

A little disappointed at the planned obsolescence of these relatively expensive gadgets. Understand their money is made in selling new but without long term support it leaves a bad taste. Anyway for now I may not need to think of replacement.

Decades ago, Panasonic announced that they would not make parts for equipment over ten years old, and I can imagine that other manufacturers would have had a similar practice, and that the time-frame has shrunk since then. Planned obsolescence is not new: see Vance Packard’s “The Waste Makers,” which I read 60 years ago.
