I have several questions now that I’ve been wearing my SIE 64s from Sam’s. My audiologist is great but sometimes you just want to get as much input as you can. Perhaps I should list each question in a new thread. Thank you in advance.
At times I was experiencing a sort of reverb/chirp sound while in the car - when turning the car off or closing the door. Went in for an adjustment yesterday and now I hear it back and forth from one ear to the other frequently when I slow down and stop. I usually set the HAs on Noisy while I’m driving. Tomorrow I will try on the normal ADRO setting. It’s going to be 108 here tomorrow so I may not wear them. (I’ll be outside.)
Is there a defining list of the common HA noises and such? I want to be as clear as possible when I’m describing these new sounds.
If this is normal, that’s fine. I know there are certain things that are to be expected and are a minor tradeoff for being able to hear well once again.
Thanks, Beth
I’m getting a bit discouraged about my HAs and all the excess noise. With just the refrigerator, it sounds like there are a mass of cicadas or crickets outside. Have had several adjustments and I wear them on Noisy most of the time. If anyone has any thoughts about my questions please do respond.
Thank you in advance. Beth
For the chirping in the car have your specialist change the noise suppression settings. I’ve had several people report this as well and I think it was because the noise suppression setting was a bit too high. Reducing it to medium or low seems to have helped.
The noisy program is going to direct your listening forward and really bring up the highs. This could account for part of the trouble you’re seeing. The default program, or adro, is going to be the most active about filtering out noises so have your specialist work on that one a bit. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much iceman! My specialist took care of the chirping the other day
Just wanted to know if some of this is normal and a part of being a HA user. Need a little assurance as this was so easy in the beginning.
I should have been clearer and written that I usually do wear them on Noisy to alleviate much of the loud cicada/whoosh/fan type noise. Perhaps I should revert to the initial ADRO setting as that’s what has gotten worse. I so hope to get the full benefit these great aids have. If I’m only going to use one setting perhaps I should have gotten a different model.
Thank you so much again. Beth
Beth,
Not sure how long you have been wearing your HAs. I can tell you that at about 1 month, all those annoying noises (refrigator, fans, etc) will simply be gone, as your brain relearns to filter them out.
Stick with it.
I did have an issue with my left aid and the car, got feedback from the glass window, my Audi had to adjust it about 3 times, but all is good now.
Thanks
Steve
Thanks Steve. I’ve had mine for about a month and was concerned as things seemed worse since the initial great experience period. Got another adjustment today and was happy to find that somehow, my wind noise feature was set on “off.” He made a couple of other changes and so far I am so pleased! We definitely need our fans in South Carolina!
I so appreciate the input and encouragement!
