Resound Quattro vs Jabra Enhance Pro 20

I currently have a pair of hearing aids that I got from Lively Hearing online. They are equivalent GN ReSound Lynx Quattro. Not sure about the level, I think Resound had 5, 7 and 9. I am planning to get a pair of Jabra Enhance Prp Select 20 right anftervthe first of next year. What kind of improvement can I expect?

Do you have Costco in your area. I would suggest you try there. You get a free hearing test and affordable hearing aids and a 180 days return policy. You just need to have a membership.

I was planning to go to Costco. I am waiting until after the first of the year so I can use my flexible spending plan.

The nearest Costco is about 90 minutes away. That is where I was planning to go to get them.

I’ve been wearing Resound Quattros for about 6 years. I was satisfied with them once I got custom moulds–because my audie just couldn’t get the domes, or receiver wire length (or something) adjusted so it worked for me. I got used to the occlusion and I was highly satisfied with the functioning of the App and with stability. Battery life…not so much. I replaced the batteries twice and they’d have needed another new battery soon. I thought I understood speech fairly well, except in noise. I didn’t notice that my ability to understand speech was deteriorating but my partner certainly thought it was. He kept asking ā€œdo you have your HAs inā€ when I did. I struggled to localize where sound was coming from.

I have been wearing Jabra Enhance Pro 20 for a week. The app is (basically) the Quatro app (just a different color) and it’s been completely stable with my Iphone 13 Pro. Battery life has been amazing. After 15 hrs of wear with about 4 hrs of streaming I will still have 80% of battery life remaining. I think I am hearing slightly better with the Jabra (and my Quatros were recaliberated about every 18 months or so). I think these are slightly better in noise, including using a special ā€œfront focusā€ setting in restaurants to be able to hear my partner. I am hearing some new sounds I haven’t heard for a long time, e.g. my pants rustling as I walk. Cicadas are much louder. But I am currently VERY dissatisfied with the wind noise and slightly dissatisfied with its handling of road noise in my neighborhood. There’s a thread on the wind noise issue…I’m not the only one struggling with it. It is ready to go for BlueTooth LE Audeo capability, once Apple gets with the program and adds it to the Iphone. (Hoping that’s a software update but I’ll buy a new phone if I have to). I am doing better with the Jabra localizing the direction sound is coming from. But I’m not sure if that’s the HAs or because I don’t have the custom moulds anymore.

If the Jabra app has the Sound Enhancer button as the ReSound Smart 3D app does, you might want to look at your settings there and see what your default noise suppression settings are on the noise reduction slider. If you just want to get rid of noise and don’t need to listen to speech, the STRONG setting will do the best job of sound suppression. If you need to listen to speech, ReSound’s past recommendation is to have noise suppression set no higher than CONSIDERABLE (the next lower level of suppression). You could probably have your fitter adjust the default noise suppression setting when you first power on your aids if you want.

If you’re having trouble localizing sounds, you might ask Costco if they’ll let you try M&RIE receivers, at least in the store. It doesn’t work for everyone, but most people who can wear the M&RIE receivers find improved sound localization because if your settings are to employ the M&RIE microphone in the ear ~exclusively in low to moderate noise level environments, you should get the benefit of a natural pinna effect from your own ears. With behind-the-ear mics on the HA bodies, the HA firmware simulates an ā€œaverage pinna effect,ā€ which, according to ReSound, is nowhere near as good as the natural pinna effect. My own private audiologist was willing to do the reverse. She said if the M&RIE receivers didn’t work for me, she’d switch them out to standard receivers at no additional charge (but I would have ended up paying for a new set of molds since the M&RIE receivers, and the standard receivers have a different shape). IMHO, the M&RIE microphones, with their filter protection and their location, are more resistant to deterioration than the microphones on the HA bodies, which are more exposed to sweat, dandruff, hair oil, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions, Jim. I have my appointment on 7/13 and this wind (more like breeze) issue is top on my list.

What type of domes do you have? This can greatly effect wind noise depending on what you have. I have double domed power domes, with the M&RIE Receivers, and have pretty decent wind and noise control.

Also, when I press ā€˜Noise Filter’ on any of my 4 programs, it silences the noise from our AC ducts. Works great for me.

Good luck with your new hearing aids!

The noise filter in the ā€œNatureā€ program helps quite a lot. But for me it’s at the expense of understanding speech. The issue is mostly as I sit on my front porch looking out at the neighborhood drinking coffee with my partner.

I have a tulip dome in one ear and an open dome in the other. I will check, but the more I poke around trying to understand the features of this Jabra I haven’t yet seen that it’s available with the M&RIE receiver. I’ll be checking at my follow-up appointment on that.

Thanks for your assistance.

Worth the drive. I just got the Enhance Pro 20 and love it. I too have a 3 1/2 hour round trip to my closest Costco.

Does anyone know if the charging case is compatible between the Lynx Quattro and the Enhance Pro 20? I invested in several spares so wondering if they are useful after upgrading to the Enhance Pro. Thanks in advance

I think it may not be. The charging case I had for the Quattro wouldn’t work with the Resound One that replaced the Quattro nor the Resound Omnia that replaced the One.
