I a resound premium charger for my vivia hearing aids on eBay. Was only 100 bucks so I was suspicious. But when they arrived it seemed brand new. All the top lights acted correctly. What I am concerned with is the 3 charge lights. They come on when I plug the cord in but go off after about 10 seconds. At first I had one green. So I let it charge awhile. Then I had two green then eventually three green. But the lights always went out after I triggered them on by pulling a hearing aid out or the power cord. I can’t find anything that says how the three lights are supposed to act. Staying on wouldn’t make sense really. But since they’re only 100 bucks I’d like to make sure. Thank you.
Welcome Dugy!
I don’t have Vivias but an older ReSound aid model with a very similar premium charger, and the good news is that this behavior you’re describing for the three LEDs in back that denote the charge level of the charger’s back-up battery is correct and normal. The LEDs are designed to go out after a few seconds of interaction by inserting or removing an aid or the cable in back, so none of the LEDs on the charger stay lit all the time.
As you probably know, three illuminated LEDs indicate the charger battery is close to fully charged and one illuminated LED, especially red, means the back-up battery on the charger needs charging. The purpose of this back-up battery on the charger is so that you can charge your aids after, say, losing AC power, or while camping, or away on a brief trip, without a charging cable.
If you haven’t seen it, the user guide for the Vivia premium charger doesn’t specifically address your question but does describe how the charger works. See page 12 for info about what the three charger LEDs signify. That guide can be viewed or downloaded here:
Thank you. They still have them so I am going to rebuy them. Mainly for dust protection. Plus storage and travel. Thank you for answering. Doug.
How do you know when it’s fully charged? When it turns from 2 lights to 3 I figure it’s not fully charged yet or is it. I figure it’s 2.1 percent charged. (Rough estimate) do they stay on when it’s fully charged? Thank you for helping. Mine is on the way.
I think three LEDs illuminated in the back of the charger when an aid is inserted or removed means it is fully charged. Similarly five LEDs illuminated inside the charger when an aid is inserted or removed means the aid is fully charged, I believe. The LEDs do not stay lit on mine for more than a few seconds after inserting or removing an aid, whether or not charging is complete, probably because keeping the LEDs lit would deplete the charger battery, if the charger wasn’t plugged in, so they just fade to off.
If you’ve installed the ReSound Smart 3D app to a phone or tablet, and if the aids are close enough to be in contact with the app, you can check the current charging state of the aid batteries on the app’s Status tab. I don’t think the app shows the charger battery status, though, unless I’m missing something. The charger battery is designed to hold when new and fully charged enough power to recharge your aids three times, even if not connected to AC power.
