Resound Omnia vs Phonak Lumity

while trialing the lumity’s and trying out all the different programs my audi gave me I have found myself using the Automatic program while at home or out playing sports …softball, pickleball and golf … when in automatic mode i tried the adjust presets option and really like the Comfort mode so i made it into a save as new program that I go to every morning… here’s my question I spoke to my audi the other day and asked instead of having a separate program that I have to manually switch to on the app can the main automatic program be changed into comfort mode … he couldn’t find anywhere in the programing software to do it??

I know others have had another program made default with paradise. Shouldn’t be hard for your HCP, and should be able to be done remotely if your HCP does remote sessions. I find that when I select a program manually, I tend to forget and wonder why I’m not doing so well when I change environments. I’m getting better, but it still happens. Personally, I’d leave it in automatic.

WH… I do want to leave it in Automatic. but I would like it to go comfort mode without me having to go on app to do it… … in the automatic default mode voices are just a little sharper

I’m not sure what you mean. Comfort mode while in automatic will be according to conditions. If you want a special force it to comfort mode, it will need to be a program besides the automatic. Mine were given to me before I got the activevents, and I got a tinnitus program which was “calm” with a tinnitus masker over it, a speech in loud noise program, and a comfort in echo program. The tinnitus masker was disabled when I got the activevents, but left the calm behind. These were all given in a remote session. You can use the buttons or the app to switch. Maybe some of the providers or DIYers have a contribution to provide?

I hope this helps.

This can be done. The “comfort” mode is a preset in the MyPhonak app. It lowers the mid and treble tones. If you explain that you prefer this in the Calm program to your Audi they should be able to create a custom program with those settings for you. They can then use Target to make that custom program the Default start up program.

Another test comparing Lumity and Omnia is coming your way. I found someone selling a brand new Phonak TV Connector V2 on Kijiji here in Canada for $35 CDN (US $28). Will do a TV listening shoot off when it shows up. I already have the Resound Unite TV streamer that came with my Quattro’s that works with Omnia.

Stay tuned….

V2 is definitely worth the while.

I like the on/off and volume on the V2.

jordan… i have the V2 streamer and have used it many times while trialing these lumitys … I prefer the sound on my Resound and having the ability to change the tone of the voices … I also DEFINITELY like the resound battery life when streaming tv on weekends I have to recharge the lumitys during the afternoon for about 1 hr

zebras… on/off and volume on the V2 ??.. don’t use use your HA or app to start streaming and change volume??

You can make the comfort mode default, but honestly. . . use the automatic mode consistently for another month and then decide whether you want to reduce your audibility for the sake of comfort. You may find that your brain has adjusted, things no longer sound sharp, but you are hearing better.

Baltazard… thx for the info… and yes I will wait… I actually do try to stay in auto each day but after a while I find myself switching back to comfort mode

Baltazard… after looking at your diagram you posted … I think you have something diefferent than what I was talking about ??

when my phonak app is opened on my iphone and I’m in Auto mode, below on app it says adjust programs when I click on it it gives 5 choices … default, comfort, clarity, speech, and surrounding… that is where I click on comfort, it says it adjusts the pitch of the sound… and then I saved it as a new program is what you posted going to change that comfort setting to my Auto program?? Thx.

My Phonak TV Connector v2 just showed up at the door. I am going to test and compare TV streaming with both Phonak Lumity and Resound Omnia. I will say that the Phonak TV Connector is absolutely tiny compared to the Resound Unite TV Streamer 2. Very useful for taking it on a vacation for sure.

Side by side comparison. Like I said, The Phonak TV Connector is really small.

the V2 streamer I’m trying out does not have the range of the Resound… I go 2 rooms away about 40 ft. and it disconnects… the Resound I could go anywhere in the house and it would still stream

Totally agree that the Resound’s TV connector is FAR superior to Phonak’s device in maintaining a connection at a distance, through walls, etc.

It is kinda hard to see the TV from two rooms away

This is going to be obsolete soon… This is being replaced by generic Auracast transmitter you find on amazon… No need for a resound 2.4 ghz protocol. I’m going with Oticon hearing aid with Bluetooth 5.2 (with full support for Auracast) if things don’t improve with resound QA… Nucleus 8 sound processor has been confirmed to support Auracast…

As mentioned, try to keep the volume up if you can in automatic. Rather than switching to comfort try lowering the volume a little in automatic.

It takes to acclimate to the correct programming for your hearing loss.
Be patient and stick with it.
Good luck

Another update…

I finally got my new Phonak TV Connector V2 connected to my TV and went through the process of pairing my Phonak Lumity L90-RT hearing aids the unit. I had my doubts it would be as easy as pairing Omnia to the Resound Unite TV Streamer 2 but the whole thing was done in 60 seconds. I basically just turned on the unit and stood within a few feet of the TV. I got the little chime noise in both ears and I was ready to go. Streaming is really a no brainer compared to Omnia. You don’t have to launch the myPhonak App and switch to the streaming program. Nor do you have to push a button on the hearing aids. I simply turned on the TV, launched a show on Netflix and within 1-2 seconds the audio starting playing through my Lumity hearing aids. When the show was over and I turned off the TV and the hearing aids just disconnected. I really didn’t have to do anything and the sound/video was perfectly synced even though I was just using the analog connection. I was also able to launch the myPhonak app during streaming and make changes to the volume, sound, etc. All worked well with no glitches. Sound was amazing. As I have stated earlier, the frequency range of Lumity is better than Omnia (my amateur sound tests show 30 Hz - 8,000 Hz) and the audio was full of rich bass and sounded almost as good as ear buds. This is definitely better than Omnia.

There are a couple of things you have to do with Lumity to avoid issues. The TV audio output MUST be set to PCM (if you are using the optical output). The Phonak TV Connector V2 doesn’t like Dolby DTS so keeping your TV in DTS or Auto mode will cause you issues. The other thing I do to avoid bluetooth issues is that I make sure I never have more than 2 bluetooth devices turned on in the house at the same time. You can have 8 paired with Lumity but no more than 2 can be active at the same time. When I am finished streaming with my laptop, I turn off bluetooth. When I am finished playing a video game with bluetooth, I turned off bluetooth on that device. The only device where bluetooth is always left on is my iPhone. I have had ZERO bluetooth issues following this process of only keeping two bluetooth devices on at any given time. I have noticed a bunch of people complaining about bluetooth with Paradise and Lumity on this forum. I think many of them are leaving all of their bluetooth devices on and the hearing aids are grabbing a connection elsewhere and the user is left thinking there are bluetooth issues.

Given the smaller size of the Phonak TV Connector V2 and the brainless way it just connects to the TV, I would have to say I was pleasantly surprised by TV streaming with Lumity. The Phonak solution might not have the same massive 30 foot range as the Resound Unite TV Streamer 2 but this may be a blessing in disguise. The shorter range of Lumity might just keep me from constantly heading into the kitchen for junk food while watching a show

I’m liking Lumity so far…

Jordan, glad it’s working well for you… you said all you have to do is turn on the TV and in a few seconds streaming kicks in… is there a way not to stream if someone else was watching a program that you didn’t want to hear?
