ReSound Nexia Micro RIE and Bluetooth LE Audio non-complient Devices

I’m in the process of deciding between ReSound Nexia and Phonak Audio Lumity HAs. I plan to trial both. While reading the many posts on the latest ReSound and Phonak HAs in this forum and on other customer reviews, there seems to be a lot of trouble with their current Apps and their device connection reliability. For example I just read a post where there was a question about the ReSound Nexia use of Bluetooth LE (low energy) Audio and how hooking up to devices that were not LE Audio compliant was difficult and not advised. The only Smartphones compatible with Bluetooth LE Audio include the Google Pixel 7/8, Samsung Galaxy S23, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4! ??? " if you want to stream from your phone, then you need one that is LE Audio".

Then I read where people are having trouble with ReSounds new 3D App giving them all sorts of problems (dropping connections, connecting to only one HA and needing multiple installations to work for a short while. What am I getting myself into? Do I have to buy a new phone and new TV now? Do I need bunches of Accessories? Thanks for any replies.

Switch to an iPhone and you shouldn’t have any connectivity problems with your phone. I did. iOS 16.x wasn’t so great but phone connectivity with iOS 17.x has been rock solid, and you get handsfree calling, too. I’m an Omnia user and it’s MFi calling for me. When Apple will come out with BT LE Audio is still a mystery, but I’m happy with the phone experience I have now, and I know Apple will support my phone years into the future, unlike Samsung when I got my Galaxy Note 8, which was a year behind the latest Android version and only got a few new versions.

Not sure if you have this concern, but my audiologist recommended Resound HAs & swore I’d hear better with them. I vetoed that as the Phonak’s are, AFAIK, the only ones that allow simultaneous Bluetooth connection to two devices (work iPhone & personal iPhone). Yes, you can pair 8-10 devices on most HAs, but you can only have one active connection, except with Phonak. The Bluetooth on my Phonak Paradise P90Rs was flawless, so I went with the Phonak Audeo Lumity P90 Life model just a week ago. So far they’ve been great. No problems with Bluetooth at all. Talking to a few folks on the phone they say I sound clearer than with the Paradise. One other thing, I set each phone with a different Siri voice so I know which is which if I ask something via tap control vs looking at the phone. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Kim. I did know about the Phonak’s use of 2 bluetooth devices at a time. In my case it would be TV and Phone. I like the ability of having many bluetooth connections set up too.
What iphone do you have? Right now I have an android (Samsung Galaxy 9S) but I’m looking at the Apple 14 plus. I also have a LG TV without bluetooth and may have to use the Tosslink Optical and Decoder set up.
I keep reading and listening to Hearing Aid Reviews and I keep going back and forth between the ReSound and the Phonak. Hopefully I will trial both. The Hearing Aid Specialist I went to has more experience with the ReSound.

I have an iPhone 11 & 13. My audiologist was a bit disappointed in my decision, but I told him the dual device active connections was a deal breaker for me on vetoing the ReSounds.

If the choice came down to Bluetooth only, I think it would be:

Phonak:

proven
wide compatibility right now
you don’t mind upgrading in a year or two if need be

Nexia:

for early adopters
you have or are happy to buy a compatible phone and/or a compatible Windows computer
better battery life
you want to hold on to your aids for at least 3 years

Samsung has much better (than it used to) Android support now–5 years I believe.

I just trialed a variety of the newest Android phones to see which would work best with my Resound (Nexia NX960S).
Interestingly, I found that while the Moto Edge 2023 and Samsung S23 had reasonable sound to hear through the HA, my voice sounded muffled to the listener when I would speak. The phone that worked the best by far was the Google Pixel 8
