Resound Hearing Aids & iPhone 12 Pro - Connection issues/static, only one working w/static etc

The theory was that since magsafe has a more powerful magnetic ring to keep the induction charger lined up it was causing something akin to EMI (electro MAGENTIC interference). This is a new feature to ALL iphone 12’s and all iphone 12;s no matter the flavor have this issue. However I saw in another blog that someone was having the same issue with a new ipad air 4. This is good news since they do not have the magsafe system. So it is likely a bluetooth chipset issue and will probably be resolved with a firmware upgrade as apple has stated

Just spoke with the Apple tech rep and was told to turn on the “Hearing Aid Compatibility” setting in the “Accessibility/Hearing Devices” menu. This may help with some hearing aids, but it didn’t help with my Resound Linx3D.

One more observation: Turning on the “Optimize MFi connection” in the ReSound app in the “More” menu made a noticeable improvement.

Electro Magnetic Interference is completely different to static magnetism you have in the MagSafe system.

Electro Magnetic Interference is when the very fast varying nature of the magnetic field generated by the electric current flow is picked up by and interferes with circuitry that is sensitive to the frequencies generated by the varying field. A static magnetic field like the MagSafe has doesn’t cause any interference at all because it isn’t varying.

good to know
thanks!

Relative to the use of “Optimize MFi Connection” in the iPhone version of the ReSound Smart 3D app, I received the following reply from ReSound’s Consumer Technical Support when I complained that turning that option on on the iPhone blocked the Apple Watch version of the ReSound 3D app from connecting to the iPhone app to control one’s HA’s:

The toggle switch for “Optimize MFi connection” within the More menu of the Smart 3D app was added to address specific issues with certain hearing aids and connectivity. In general, I would suggest leaving this off as it also inhibits the use of the Finder feature and can also slow down the app opening in general. We are aware that it does inhibit the Watch app and are working to improve this.

The respondent does not say for what brand/model of HA’s the “Optimize MFi Connection” option was added but presumably it wasn’t the ReSound Quattro brand from the gist of the reply.

Yes, I am having the same issues & have done the same things. Nothing has worked.

I have a new iPhone 12 mini (IOS 14.2) with Oticon s1 and have been having exactly the same problem with Made for IPhone (MFI) as described by others here. Intermittent static in one ear, then the other and sometimes both! In view of fact that this is being reported by hearing aid users with other brands, suspect it is a problem with the phones. I certainly never had it with my previous iPhone SE.
Had wondered about asking for a replacement, but appears to be a systematic problem.
Very annoying, especially when receiving phone calls.
Will report to Apple

I am wearing Costco‘s Resound Preza’s now for five months. My phone is iPhone SE. Periodically I get voice transferred from left ear to right ear and vice versa but not on all phone calls. I experienced that last evening but do not know what model phone she was using. One of my sons has an Android, the other has iPhone and I rarely run into this with them so who knows where this is coming from. I have learned to live with it and I love my Resound Preza’s.

I was sorry to hear George Guy consider Costco as a medium provider. I have had nothing but exceptional results from Costco. George Guy is either a fitter or an audiologist. One can experience a bad auto mechanic or a good one. Get a referral if you can.

I am just thankful to be able to hear better but unfortunately with all of the brands and or audiologists speech is still the hardest to fit.

Apple has released iOS 14.2.1 it fixes the MFI issues with iPhone 12

And if you have an older iPhone, you won’t get the iOS 14.2.1 update.

Just upgraded my new iPhone 12 to 14.3 iOS after being unable to connect my ReSound HAs. After much toing and froing I finally got them to connect. my first test phone call began with very annoying echo, which then disappeared. yay! Haven’t tried streaming yet. oh yes, in the process of the upgrade I lost my ReSound favorites, but was able to redo the most important one. phew!

I have the 2018 IPhone SE 14.2. Just updated to that about a week or so ago. When I checked now my update has 14.3 available which will update automatically tonight. Mine doesn’t show the .1.

As far as I’m concerned these electronic gadgets are making a lot of errors. One always tends to blame themselves but it is the age we are living in now and these things are not human although they think they are sometimes.

IOS 14.2.1 was only for iPhone 12, so you wouldn’t get it on an SE 2020.

I have the SE2020 an it is updated to 14.3 with no issues with static

Me too. Updated last night

Thank you! If I may ask, do you have a Ragdoll?
