My ReSound hearing aid has no sound. It’s fully charged. It’s clean. No obstructions.
Does it have an “automatic on” feature when removed from the charger? If so, that may have malfunctioned. Try turning it on manually.
Im so sorry to read this. At the risk of asking you what you’ve already done …
Have you tried turning aids on and off?
Ditto restarting the app - could youbhave accidentally muted sound there?
Can you stream audio from your phone or is that down as well?
Are you rechargeable or batteries?
Have you changed the wax traps and filters?
Trying to figure out if you have a total breakdown or if its just one part. .
Can you see that it is active in the app?

Welcome to the forum, todoroff!
A “common” (as in every year or two) issue that has caused, first, muted sound, and eventually NO sound, in one of my Resound rechargeable aids is failure of the receiver in the ear. Receivers are easily replaced by an audiologist, who can test a suspect receiver to determine if it’s faulty and swap the bad one out for a good one if needed. The receiver may have to be ordered.
If it’s past the probably-three-year warranty, and if you don’t have access to an audiologist to service your aids–say you got them online etc.–it is also possible to DIY this. You can determine if it’s likely that the receiver is faulty (assuming it’s charged and powered up) by handing it to a friend or family member with normal hearing and asking them to cup it in their closed hand they hold up to their ear and listening for whistling/howling feedback noise. If no one with normal hearing detects feedback, chances are good that a failed receiver is your issue.
You can replace failed receivers by ordering them online (I’ve used eBay), but you must be very careful to match a receiver you see online with the same brand, model, left ear vs right ear, and size (shown at the end of the aid going into your ear, when you remove the dome). For example on my Resound aid, on that silver bar at the end of the wire with the dome removed, I see “2 MP C”. I would need to order that exact spec for my ReSound Quattro right ear, or left ear. Left and right ear receivers are not interchangeable! and if it isn’t an exact match on the specification such 2 MP C (yours may vary), don’t order it. It may not fit your ear as well as the old one, and the settings could be wrong. You can find instructions online from ReSound to install the new receiver, if they’re not included. There are also YouTube videos demonstrating it; it’s not hard to do. Generally you’re going to push a sharp object like a sewing needle into a small hole on the aid to release the old receiver and then pop the new receiver into place. You do not need an audiologist to update settings on the new receiver if the old receiver was set correctly; it should work the same as when the old receiver was operating, though there’s always a chance that you get another defective receiver online. You also may need to use a hair dryer to warm the wire and mold it into the same shape as the old wire for a good fit. If you’re not comfortable doing this, you should pay an audiologist to handle it.
OH… one more thing… you said No obstructions… you did try (yes?) replacing the wax guard? A wax guard needing replacement can cause this issue.
Hey Phil! I have tried turning the aid on and off manually. Didn’t help. I uninstalled app and reinstalled app. Didn’t help. I don’t know how to mute the sound. I have a “on/off” and “up/down” button for volume. I am connected to bluetooth but without sound I can’t tell if that’s not working. Aid is rechargeable and is fully charged; I can see that through iPhone settings and ReSound app. There’s no wax trap and filters that I’m aware of. My Audi and the company knows of my issues. Supposedly, I am the only person that is having this issue. The first Resound aid lost sound immediately. The aid was sent back to the company and they said they repaired everything. Still didn’t work. They replaced it with a second aid that had same issue. The company replaced second one with a third aid. I’ve had this one for less than six months. Yesterday morning, I lost sound. With all three aids, Audi, removed from apps, from bluetooth, etc. trying to figure out what’s happening. Nobody seems to know what’s going on.
Hey hamjor1, I don’t have a receiver I have an earmold. Thanks for your comment!
Hey WH, Yes, I can. Thank you for your comment!
Hey AttilaDaPun, yes it does. I tried turning it on then off and on again. Didn’t make a difference. Thanks for your comment!
Even in an earmold, there should be a wax trap/wax filter, at the tip of the earmold. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DmETB-jZ5uXM&ved=2ahUKEwjMoe2ikN2OAxUgEkQIHaB0CbkQwqsBegQIEBAE&usg=AOvVaw0aa7ZuJfSJKJoLpx2tlOgX is the URL for a video I was able to view when I searched for “Resound hearing aid with earmold, where is the wax filter” - there are other videos that came up as well.
You might want to take a closer look at the end of the ear mold that would be deepest in your ear canal, as earwax can certainly muffle or entirely mute the sound from the speaker.
I hope this is helpful!
You’re welcome. You indicated you had rechargeable ReSound aids. These generally do have replaceable receivers that at the far end will have either a dome or an earmold. So having an earmold doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t have a receiver on each aid. Take a look at ten seconds of a Dr. Cliff video here:
Same aid. Both have receivers. One with a dome installed. One with an earmold installed. Here’s what a ReSound receiver may look like… a wire leading to a silver bar that would have a dome or earmold attached:
The upper end of the receiver (in this photo) attaches to the aid. The lower end will have a dome or earmold attached. These receivers can fail and need replacement. If they fail, the aid will power up but will not transmit sound. There can be other causes of not being able to hear anything, including earwax in the ear, or in the wax guard, or another defect in the aid body. If wax is blocking sound in the ear, your aid that doesn’t seem to be working will transmit sound if you hold it up to the other ear; in that case, the receiver and aid body probably work fine, and the wax guard probably isn’t clogged. If you hold the working aid up to the ear where you can’t hear the aid, and still don’t hear anything, then most likely both aids are fine and there’s an issue like wax in your ear.
Do you have a local audiologist you can go to and get this checked out?
Yes, it was! Thanks!
Thank you for your input! Yes, I have an audi and the company who makes ReSound are both aware of my issue. Still, can’t get any answers. I was hoping to find someone here who might have experienced the same problem and could enlighten me.
Now I’m seeing that you may be correct, that you may have rechargeable ReSound aids that do not have receivers. If you look at the red image here:
…it shows rechargeable ITE, ITC, and BTE aids. These do not have receivers and can be fitted for earmolds. Most people get the rechargeable micro RIE which does have a receiver. Do you have aids that look like one of these?
Yes, I suppose so. They’re similar, yes. I have a CI in my right ear and the hearing aid’s in my left.
I’m puzzled - doesn’t RIE mean Receiver In Ear?
Yes it does, and I was assuming that’s what todoroff had, but I don’t see that todoroff said, I have an RIE aid. Did I miss it? The chart I linked to shows rechargeable ReSound Nexia aids that are RIE (and have receivers) but also BTE and ITE/ITC (which don’t have receivers). Todoroff didn’t say the aids were Nexias; I’m just citing it as an example.
