The ReSound Forte 8 battery door/compartment is set up such that you can open the door partially to turn the aid off, and can pull the door open past that stop to fully open it. The battery holder portion of the door has a little appendage that sticks out to create the “resistance” needed for the stop.
I’ve managed twice in the last few months to weaken that piece, and ultimately snap it off. It doesn’t affect the overall operation of the aid, other than the door not feeling as securely close, and freely opening without that little stop along the way.
I think it’s been the right aid both times. I’ll be going back to Costco to get a loaner, and have this one sent off. I suspect it’ll be replaced with a new aid like it was last time.
Anyone else having this issue? In almost 20 years of wearing aids I’ve never had battery door issues until now. I was a bit surprised that Costco didn’t have replacement doors to put on then this occurs.
Compared to my 8-year-old Oticon Agils, which didn’t have a partial-opening feature, the battery doors on my Resound Forte 8s do seem rather flimsy. Out of caution I’ve gotten into the nightly habit of opening it only to the “off” detent, rather than all the way… in spite of advice to open the door fully, in order to ensure that interior components dry fully.
If it has been the right aid both times, you might study the technique you’re using to open the door… perhaps there’s something you’re doing to open the right aid that you’re not doing with the left.
I’m noticing a significant loss of resistance on my left aid battery door. After 5-6 months with my Forte (312 edition). I’ve not noticed any plastic breaking off. The two HA doors look identical…nothing missing on one that is on the other.
Debating whether it is worth complaining about. As you say, doesn’t affect performance and the doors are not moving on their own even in response to violent movements. I figure, no big deal.
It might be they replace the casing, not necessarily the HA’s internal works.
