Resound and Jabra telephone apps

Maybe I’m a Luddite, but has anyone noticed the absolutely onerous terms and conditions for the phone app agreement for both Resound and Jabra Pro? Pretty clear that you have to have your location enabled and send you phone data to the Peoples Republic of China. Not something I’m comfortable with. Being old fashioned, I bought the remote control 2, the advanced one. It does almost everything that the phone app does, but I was hoping to play with the hear in noise directionality slider.

On the other hand, I’m not totally clueless, so does anyone know if you can disable all permissions and still have the apps work, or if I can sideload the APK?

You have to have your location enabled if you want the “find my hearing aids” function to work.

And by the way no-one in the People’s Republic of China is the least bit interested in you or your location, you should know!

The app is way more useful than the Remote Control 2, but it’s up to you.

I just find it funny that a Danish company specifically sends your phone data to China. But what the heck, call me a conspiracy theorist.

For me I just want to have a choice, so you can turn location, camera, audio/mic etc off when ever you want, so just one time and then remove those permissions, I think “nearby devices” would be one that you’d need to keep tho.

I may give that a whirl. Install it then remove all permissions. Most folks don’t even read what they’re agreeing to when they click accept on those apps.

What makes you think they send the data back to China exactly?

Maybe I’ reading it wrong, but this is the last paragraph in the terms and conditions.

Of course that may be a declaration that users in the PRC have to abide by to use the software. I’m not a lawyer, or particuarly bright for that matter , so I just shy away from such as that.

I can conclusively say this is now a moot point. My old Android phone won’t even pair with the Jabra Pro 20’s.

Which phone? nice new shiny HAs should have nice shiny phone to pair with ; )

You are reading it wrong. Look at the beginning of section 7. It says:

The terms and conditions presented in this Section 7 are only applicable for purchases of hearing aids made within the specific countries listed. Any terms and conditions included in Section 7 for a specific country apply in addition to the terms and conditions in section 1-6. In case of any inconsistency, the country specific terms in section 7 shall prevail For purchases outside of these areas, please refer exclusively to the general terms and conditions sections 1-6.

Then it goes on to tell purchasers of Resound hearing aids in China what is the applicable law in China.

Assuming you bought your hearing aids outside China, you can ignore section 7. In any case even for people who bought their hearing aids in China, the section is just telling them which is the Resound office in China where their purchase has been registered, (no doubt for warranty purposes and so on). There is nothing at all to suggest that Resound would send your user data to China. I can’t imagine why you thought there was?

Good on you, interpreting all that jargon for me. It doesn’t matter, my phone doesn’t work with the hearing aids.

It’s like me, old and busted. Motorola Power I believe is what they call it. Cheap, but reliable.

An older model you say, well the latest version is pretty flash, has LE with bluetooth version 5.3, Samsung and Pixel phones are others you could check out.
