My Oticon Opn aids have 10db reserve gain with 4 volume intervals. So I can increase volume in 2.5db intervals when I press the rocker button on the right aid. Does increasing the aid volume manually by the rocker button apply that 2.5 dB of gain over all frequencies?
Depends on the hearing aid and the settings. I’d have to look into it for Opn. But Phonak, for example, now defaults to a shaped gain wherein increasing the volume sharpens the sound and tries to increase noise reduction because they are assuming you are increasing the volume when you are straining to hear someone. You can change it to a linear increase. Signia and Widex also use a shaped gain approach. I don’t recollect Oticon having the option to change how the volume functions in their software (I’d have to have a second look), but that doesn’t necessarily mean that their software isn’t doing it behind the scenes. What does it sound like to you?
I know this question is for the OP, but it sounds linear to me.
I also don’t recall seeing any kind of shaped gain option on the Genie 2 software. But I wonder if they might have built it into the fitting rationale depending how they choose to treat the different types of hearing losses. For example, a particular shaped gain may work for the ski slope loss but not the reverse ski slope loss.
