Replacement for wax filter on BTE hearing aids

Hi! I have Phonak Naida L90-UPs and I’ve noticed a weird rattle in one of my hearing aids recently when they try to play loud or bassy sounds. I’ve looked at them properly and they look fine. The earmould is clean, I’ve replaced the tube and it fits fine, batteries replaced and cleaned, the only thing that doesn’t look right is the white thing in the top of the hook.

From what I understand, this is the wax guard. I’ve looked online for any resources as to how to replace it, but CeruShield and CeruDisk seem to be for RIC models. If I wanted to replace the white thing on my hearing aids (it looks old and almost like it’s frayed in the hearing aid with the issue), is there a place I can get new filters that work with my hearing aids, or would I need new hooks? And if I needed new hooks, which are they, there’s so many to choose from :sob:

Thanks!

James

That white thing is not a wax guard, but a sound damper, for moderating high frequencies. You can unscrew the ear hook and remove it, but it shouldn’t be causing any rattling. I suppose if it got hardened it might rattle? They usually just get clogged with moisture, leading to a blocking of sound.

Thanks!

Is it needed for them to work? I’m quite active and they tend to get clogged at least once a month, I end up taking them out, squishing them in tissue paper and putting them back

Taking it out will alter the sound a bit (make things a bit louder and sharper), and if it is getting clogged, then not having it might allow moisture into the electronics, which would not be good. Can you go to your audiologist for a replacement ear hook? They might also have some advice on how to deal with the moisture problem - maybe moisture-resistant tubes could help.
