Can anyone familiar with the Phonak I90 Sphere explain how Bluetooth works in relation to the hearing aids gain settings. Does the audiologist have any control over what happens with Bluetooth?
The details:
I lost 80 percent hearing in my left ear back in the 1990s and now I’ve lost 50 percent in my right ear. It’s been about 2 months since I’ve been wearing hearing aids in both ears. I am wearing Phonak I90 Spheres. I wore them for about a month and was constantly adjusting the physical position of the hearing aid because if it was too far in my ear I had distortion. About two weeks in my audiologist increased the gain in my hearing aids. I noticed when she did that if made everything on bluetooth very quiet. I had to turn the volume up just for bluetooth. Last week my audiologist and I finally really communicated and she showed me that I should not need to change the physical position of my hearing aid; it should be all the way in my ear and stay there. They are molded hearing aids BTW. So once I understood this everything coming from the hearing aids was definitely distorted, I didn’t test Bluetooth in the session. She lowered the gain and made some slight adjustments to treble and bass channels. It’s better. However, now all of my Bluetooth is distorted. I have it turned it down as much as possible and still can’t understand voices when I am on the phone or listening to podcasts. I am going to continue to work with my audiologist on this.
I assumed that Bluetooth was something the audiologist could not control. However, changing gain levels for the hearing aids seems to affect the volume/gain levels on Bluetooth in the opposite direction. Has anyone else experience this? TIA
There are separate programs for streaming and telephone which can be adjusted in the software the audiologist uses to set up the hearing aids. The default in that software is to include all programs in any adjustments. It sounds like the audi may have just adjusted all programs by the same amount which made the streaming and telephone programs worse. I believe you need to go back to the audi and have the telephone and streaming programs adjusted separately.
