I am a science teacher / head of science in high school in the UK. I have always had problems with volume, hearing speech, hearing someone at the back etc
Can anyone recommend any new, up and coming digital hearing aids that actually have power without feedback and distortion. Someone told me about Widex Dream 440?
Funnily enough my widex ITE from 8 years ago do the job better than any modern hearing aids I’ve tried out recently. (I prefer in the ear to behind the ear.)
I don’t need bells and whistles, just clear speech with room to turn up lots of volume to hear someone at the back.
Thanks for any help you can give.
I don’t mind about brands or price, just suggestions and reasons for them.
I wonder if posting your audiogram results would let people give you a better idea on what hearing aids are best. I know a lot of people stick with the brand of hearing aid they are used too.
Hi Jedi,
If your widex ITE has telecoil, i.e. the T switch, you can get an FM system, for example the new Phonak Roger Pen (or Roger Mic), paired with a MyLink Universal Receiver. This has only just been released and claims to improve speech over distance (amongst other features), and has a zoom feature. I think it costs around £600 for these 2 devices.
With respect to hearing aids - I think all the major manufacturers have good aids now, and from what I read on here, it’s a matter of preference with a lot of people. Some prefer Phonak, some Oticon, some GNResound. Sometimes it’s a case that aids will perform better in music, so people prefer that, or the sound clarity is exceptional (lot of good reports from Widex aids on that).
I don’t think you would go far wrong if you choose any of the new premium aids from either Phonak, Widex, Oticon, Siemens, Starkey, GNResound, Bernafon or Unitron.
Thanks for the replies. At the moment I do not have access to my data, but I have profound to severe hearing loss since birth.
I have tried mics, but they are so uncomfortable to wear / listen and I dont want to have to keep changing hearing aids, receivers every time I move from classroom to classroom etc
Thanks for advice though Glucas and Zebras
My understanding of the Phonak MyLink Universal Receiver and Roger Pen FM system is that they both can be worn with a neckloop. You do not need to fit a receiver because sound is transmitted to your hearing aid and can be heard when you activate the T switch (via telecoil). In fact, with the Pen, you do not need to wear it, you could place it on a desk in front of you and point it at your class. Check out www.phonakpro.com
Good luck.
