Rechargeable Hearing Aid quits for no apparent reason

Signia Hearing Aid quits for no apparent reason; I activate it by resetting it in the charger. But I’m worried. So I carry my charger with me everywhere. This occurs almost daily now and just started a few weeks ago. I use a CROS in my deaf ear and a carry and go in the “good” ear (still profound hearing loss). By the way, I was following another chat but lost it. (Next time it happens I will check my iPhone’s app to see if it thinks the sound is set for both aids).

Whenever I see a case where a hearing aid loses sound unexpectedly, the first troubleshooting questions I ask are have you replaced the wax guard, and are you getting a low battery signal prior to the hearing aid losing sound? I might suspect the internal battery cell is coming loose from the contacts inside the device, but that is not something remediable in office.

I do not get a low battery signal. The aid stopped without any warning. (This is a Signia rechargeable batter hearing aid, by the way). But I intend to check my phone app’s volume level next time it happens (but it did stop twice yesterday!!). I am also going to try to call the Signa company itself today. I did call my local office but was told to bring it in for checking, potentially leaving the aid at the office for repair. My issue is that I can’t be without the aid and can’t find my backup. I was hoping to get this resolved before going to the office. I might just bite the bullet and buy a backup first. It sounds like my aid will have to be shipped to the company for repair, especially if the internal battery cell is loose. Thanks for responding.

What is the temperature like where you live?

People have reported here that rechargeable hearing aids have quit when the temperature gets too cold or too hot.

Putting back in charger works but it’s not ideal.

Maybe you could try using just the non-CROS aid in case it’s the the CROS aid that’s causing the issue. It’s not a solution, but might it be worth a try for trouble-shooting what’s going on.

Hi Ruth,
My Paradise P90R’s have behaved exactly like this.
First–battery life was horrible, until they replaced them at the end of warranty. New hearing aids and charger work better.
Second—I’ve probably had to reset and then put them in a charger about 5 times.

Every time I have had to find the manual i printed for my Phonak hearing aids.

Take care, good to see your answer.

I have the same issue with my new signia hearing aid. The sound does not come through the right one only. The signia app shows everything is OK.
If I put it back on the charger for a few minutes it starts working again. Sometimes it will be OK the whole day, sometimes it stops again every hour or so. The supplier asked me to return it for test, which I will do when I return from a long holiday…
