What’s the best way to wear eyeglasses when you have Receiver in canal hearing aids? Should the hearing aids be next to the skull?
Or should the eyeglasses’ temples be next to the skull and the hearing aids be put on next?
The optician takes a number of measurements that determine how the Progressive Lenses are ground.
So…I want to make sure that the measurements are taken properly
I would agree with @jay_man2 . But next to that, as I own a bunch of glasses, I would bring at least my earware to show and let the optician have a look at it, for a better fit. There are so many ways to bend the temples to a good fitting.
But the fitting of the temples also depends on the kind of glasses and the way the glasses are formed around your skull. Different glasses can have totally different fits.
I’ve worn Zeiss progressive lenses for the last 20 years. I used Rodenstock before that for many years. I’m a photographer…it’s important how well I see.
About 3 years ago I went in to order my second pair. I asked the fitter how she was setting up my new glasses. She said temple on top of the hearing aids. That’s how she setup the glasses I had used for years.
I couldn’t believe it. That’s how my first pair of Zeiss Progressive had been setup. They took measurements, and had the lenses ground.
My last pair–I changed to plastic frames. I had used metal frames for many years. The plastic frames have been better; they last. The metal ones the nose-piece bent easily. I had a profitable photo business in film days. Nationally publicized.
I used to have glasses with a rounded flexible temple way round my ears made out of a kind of metal wire maybe 1 or 2 mm thick. They were popular in the years 1920- 1940. Good for sports etc. Got them from my father…
@DaveL
I have been wearing glasses for about 70 years and hearing aid for 20 years. I wear wire frame glasses only. My ear pieces are very thin. The ear pieces always go against the skull, the aids out against the ear. If the aids are properly adjusted you will not have any issues with the sound of the aids rubbing against the glasses or your hair. I even wear at times sun glasses that fit over top of my prescription glasses.
Thanks Chuck.
I wore wire frame for years and years.
My camera bent the nose piece almost instantly. I couldn’t see; I got migraines.
I’m going to change opticiians to see if someone else can help.
Since getting HAs i started to use Oakley frames as the temples will sit nicely on top of the ear and RIC wire.
Some frames i came across have cable-temples which hug the back of the ear.
Standard frames (metal or plastic) make my ears stick out a bit more than normal
