Greetings - I just took delivery yesterday of a new pair of Phonak Lumity 90 life HA. I am coming from a long time usage of Oticon products, most recently the More 1’s, which I had a tremendous amount of hardware problems with. I had used the Oticon app for the limited use of Volume control and boosting speech in loud rooms, and when I did, the temporary changes I made stayed with the HA until I made any further changes or brought the More’s back to their default settings. Using the My Phonak app, as revised last week , certainly gives me more choices on how to customize the hearing experience, but I find that as soon as my IPhone screen goes to sleep, the changes with the programs get lost and reverts to the automatic setting. It seems the only way to keep a special setting is to save it as a new program, which greatly diminishes the flexibility to make changes in situations as they may change. I
Is this how the app is meant to work, and, if so, is there a way to make temporary changes that stay intact even after the phone is locked? Thanks, and much appreciated for your assistance.
Great post.
I use the APP with my Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R’s
I find it very helpful.
I need to have my hearing aid setup changed so I want to follow your post and learn
When I save a custom program my hearing aids stay in that program. They no longer automatically change when the environment changes. Does that happen with the Lumity 90’s too?
@DaveL I believe that is correct. You manually have to change the program back to Automatic. My Signia would go back on their own, when the environment changed I seem to remember. I kinda like that process. I’m seeing my Audiologist tomorrow. I’ll ask.
Unfortunately my right HA is not charging, so need to return it to Phonak. I have L90 life also. Bummer that it doesn’t charge. I’ve tried everything.
Yes. My understanding is that if you switch to a custom program the aids will stay there until you manually return to the automatic setting. I believe your audiologist can make the changes permanent if you wish.
I am on starting week three of my Phonak L90 Life. When I establish, by yourself, adding a custom program, and properly save that program; once I switch to it, my hearing aids stay on it until I change it. They may go back to automatic if I shut the hearing aids off or charge them on the charger. Of course, I can manually switch back to automatic myself when I change environments and want to go back to automatic. Note that you can change up a program that you create, by simply making changes and saving it to the new settings. You could also make an entirely new user created program, by using one you like and creating a variation of it and saving that. The above is what I have stumbled upon while working with the My Phonak App thus far. I have an appointment with an Audiologist near the end of April to a Real Ear Speech measurement and some tweaking. As I am a novice with hearing aids and Phonak so all that I mentioned above is with that advisement. Learning like everyone else.
My wish is to have my hearing aids work in noisy environments, then change automatically when I’m in a quiet environment.
When i first got them, I couldn’t hear someone talking to me from the second floor or laundry room on the same floor. They work much better now after a number of changes.
I think it takes a lot of patience to live with me because I’m hard of hearing.
A telling experience…a while ago we met a neighbour who lives behind us, when we were walking our dog. He has hearing aids. We had a conversation I couldn’t hear when planes were flying low overhead. We live in the flightpath. They are very low. I visited my audi; he made a number of changes.
Me too! I’ve been wearing my Lumity L90-RT’s since October and I never change programs. Autosense is superb and gets it right 95% of the time. I would say the only time it messes up is when you are in a restaurant or bar with loud music and it keeps switching between the Music Program and Speech in Very Loud Noise. Other than that…it just works.
@Zebras@JordanK … This is interesting. I have been using L90-RTs for a few weeks now. Autosense is quite good, but for me it changes too readily to ‘Comfort in Noise’ when I really need it to go to ‘Speech in Noise’ Eg. I want to be able to hear someone talk to me if I’m boiling a kettle or running a tap on full, but Comfort in Noise doesn’t really help in that respect.
My hearing aids start in a program I saved. Calm situation. Then I turn on my Phonak. And change it to autosense. I need to get it changed by the audiologist. It’s been that way since my last visit.
Everytime time my phones beeps the app changes to Bluetooth to send the beep to my HSs then it reverts to Speech in Noise after. It never goes back to the custom setting.
Try turning Bluetooth off after you have set the App the way you want it.
Yes, the app is working as designed. It is one of the maddening parts of the whole Phonak implementation of BT streaming and phone call handling (at least for me).
If you want to make the changes permanent to your main programs, you’ll need to get your HCP to make the changes.
@DaveL Yes, my experience with L90s is that if you change to a saved program (by saved I mean a program you’ve created and named), it will stay there. Since you’ve changed to a custom program, the HAs rely on you to tell them when to go back to an “Auto” program (changes with the hearing conditions) or a different program created by your HCP.
For example: when I was trialing the L90s, I had a program I created and called “Car Radio” for when I was driving and listening to the radio. When I no longer wanted to be in “Car Radio,” I had to switch to another program either via the app or manually through the rocker buttons.
