Profound Loss - Help me decide pocket model amplifier

Quick back ground. My father have used hearing aid of various sorts in the last 3O years or so. Currently he is age 85 plus. He has been using pocket model hearing amplifier and quite happy for the most part. He insist for not having behind the ear or any modern type of aids.

Trying to see what could be a good pocket model amplifier? He is in a different country so once I buy something from here, it will be difficult to return etc.
What will be a good pocket model amplifier you all recommend?
Saw some of these in amazon. starting from Reizen $50 to Willian Sound at $200 and more. Is the price difference worth it? Preferably would love to have dual ear[hone model

This one only applies to 40 dB so isn’t suitable for a potentially a 120 dB hearing loss.

It would be better if your dad gets an hearing test so you will know how much gain is needed.

Airpods and an iPhone or iPad that supports LiveListen work well for this. Not a cheap option, but many people already have them anyway.

Thanks everyone

Will look for something with higher out put

Dads audiogram was done earlier. As I call he was on the highest or profound category

His current pocket model says the following but I know its very cheap one hence looking for something decent

  • Max out put 130± 5 db
  • Sound gain 50db

There’s an body type hearing aid on eBay. This amplifier has an max gain of 67 dB.

My hearing is very profound and l had a pair of Widex Super 440 RIC aids with an max gain of 73 dB and l couldn’t understand the person in front of me. I needed 80 dB gain.
I got this pair of Widex aids only for it’s tinnitus program in 2013 or 2014.

I cast my vote for this model at Amazon.com.

It seems simple to use, compact & lightweight, and tailored to the profoundly deaf.

Thanks. Any other inputs anyone?

It looks pretty cheap amplifier. You get what you paid for. The one l picked is better quality and possibly has more gain.

It wasn’t the price that decided it for me, it was this line in the list of specs: Powerful hearing enhancement amplifier with 120dB sensitivity helps you hear.

I figured POWER is the key?

Standard Technical Specifications

|Maximum Gain| 67 dB
|Maximum Power Output 130 dB SPL
|Battery Life 450 hr
|Battery Type AA

The other one has a estimated battery life: 48 hrs

Those are impressive specs! The max 130 dB SPL is awesome. I wish I had that in my Lumity Life aids.

And the battery life. I just did the math and see it’s almost NINETEEN DAYS. Wow.

Granted it’s bigger than my Lumity Life aids, but I wish we could achieve the level of miniaturization in hearing aids that we’ve enjoyed in silicon chips going into other electronics. Thanks for sharing.

Naida Lumity UP is around 142dB SPL I think?

Same with Paradise Naida UP.

Thanks all. Dad is comfortable with pocket model so I am planning to buy only pocket model ( preferably with two ear buds) not the behind the ear ones

Hello, I see this in Amazon for $200. Couldn’t find anything in ebay. Is this the one recommended?

Better if your dad gets an custom ear mold for the receiver. From 5 years old to 20 yrs old, l worn body type aid with a custom earmold. The early BTE aids weren’t powerful enough.
