I have UK NHS Phonak HA’s. When I go to my local shopping Centre/Mall both ears experience a feeling of closing down. As a result I hear noises in my immediate vicinity,I hear shrieks from two year olds and the crash of shopping trolleys. It’s like pressure in the ears. Sometimes I think it’ s like a lump of polystyrene has been placed in each ear. It makes me feel disorientated and uncomfortable. It clears when I leave. I can also feel this in the kitchen at home.
Has anyone experienced this, any theories. What can I do to prevent this?
Welcome @Graham3
You could tell your fitter hat he need to adjust the autosense programms “Comfort in Noise” and “Speech in Noise” to your liking.
Alternatively you may have the abilty in the hearing aid app, to adjust the current autosense programm on the fly when you are inside the shopping center.
Your hearing aid may be inadvertently amplifying loud sounds when you’d like it to adjust and do the opposite. In these environments, if you’ve lowered the sound on your hearing aids, does it help alleviate the issue, or does the issue persist?
I agree with @firenzel that you should ask your audi to adjust the comfort in noise or speech in noise programs, or even take a look at what the autosense program is doing in those environments.
I would also like to know if there were any changes to your earmolds. Did you go from vented to unvented (sealed) earmolds? How long have you had these hearing aids for?
Here you can find an explanation how you can find out and see in the App what program the Automatic mode currently has selected.
Open the myPhonak app and make sure you are connected to the hearing aids.
Click on the “Adjust program” button at the bottom of the Automatic tab.
Then look at the top of the “Adjust program” screen. You will see what program the Automatic mode is using right now.
I experience something similar, as soon as I walk into my local Tesco it feels as if my hearing is shutting down. Once back outside in the open, all is normal.
