PowerOne Battery Recalled over Explosion Risk

I have just been informed by Amazon that many sizes of Zn/Air batteries from PowerOne (e.g. both the p312 and p13 that I recently ordered) have been recalled over safety concerns: https://www.gov.uk/drug-device-alerts/all-zenipower-mercury-free-hearing-aid-batteries-low-risk-of-batteries-exploding-during-use-or-if-depleted and https://assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk/media/56e03b18e5274a036e000016/MDA-2016-003.pdf

Effected batteries have expiration dates: ’08-2018’ and ‘09-2018’

While explosion is a known risk with Lithium batteries, it surprises me to see this reported for Zn/Air chemistry. The referenced pdf attributes it to excessive gassing of hydrogen.

Although PowerOne batteries are labelled “Made in Germany” they appear to be manufactured in China.

You have to wonder if taking the miniscule amount of mercury out of the process was absolutely the best idea…

They instead needed to teach people that feeding batteries to their children was not a good idea.

Please read the recall notice, as it clearly states the issue is with Zeni Power MF batteries.

Amazon sent this notice out incorrectly to customers who purchased Power One.

Amazon has just sent out a correction which reads in part:
"Greetings from Amazon.com.

We recently messaged you regarding certain product(s) that our records indicate you purchased through the Amazon.com website:
PowerOne Hearing Aid Batteries Size 13, PR48 (60 Batteries) + 2 Cell Battery Keychain Kit
The message included the following link to a United Kingdom recall of certain “ZeniPower” branded hearing aid batteries.

The recall notice is limited to ZeniPower branded batteries with Best Before dates of 08-2018 and 09-2018. Please ignore our prior message if you purchased a different brand of battery.
