On my Phonak L90 hearing aids running the “Restaurant” program, the amplification increases and decreases in a big way with no interaction by me.
Bug or feature?

It’ll be Autosense switching between programs. Each program will have different levels if directionality and noise reductions. Personally, I have 2 additional programmes. Music is my startup, with Speech in Noise switchable (with a long press). I do have Autosense as an option, but rarely use it.
Edit: I see you’re using the App based Restaurant programme. This is effectively the Speech in noise programme, and your Audiologist can permanently add it
Peter
I have the older model. Paradise P90Rs
I have heard that you have a better chip with more memory, and a later version of autosense. I’m confident that it’s better.
I grew up loving music. The way to hear better was to turn up the volume
Now we have “smart” hearing aids that are dead until the dispenser sets them up. In the 3 years I’ve found that environmental changes result in instant changes from autosense. I’ve found that often I hear worse after autosense has changed programs.
That’s particularly hard when I’m trying to follow conversation.
on bad days I figure that autosense just doesn’t work, and I hear worse because of it.
on good days my hearing aids are just barely good enough
I have Phonak Lumity 90s, and IMO the Speech in Noise and Restaurant programs are a little different. The Speech in Noise does a better job with background noise, but it also seems to dull speech. Restaurant does diminish background noise, but not as much, and then doesn’t seem to dull speech as much.
My first great improvement happened when the owner of this site posted a Phonak program to be used when speakers used surgical mask. They attenuate some frequencies.
His suggestion boosted mid and high frequencies.
My dispensing Audi erased all my programs.
That program was gone
Lesson…boosting mid, high. Helped
Dave, your P90s should have an additional “mask” programme available in Target’s program options. I’ll connect mine up and post a screen shot.
Peter
I cured this in Target by reducing the noise reduction settings
Thanks Peter. I didn’t know. That’s a big help!
Having target software and a noahlink is so helpful for these issues. Sometimes I create my own programs.
