Phonak Target occlusion compensation?

On the Global Fitting page there’s a drop down menu for Occlusion Compensation with available choices of Off, Weak, Medium, and Strong. Increasing the compensation decreases the low-frequencies gain.

This perplexes me because it was my understanding the the more occlusion, the less low-frequency ambient sound is available at the eardrum, and therefore the more low-frequencies gain is needed from the aid. Where have I gone wrong?

I think you’ve got it backwards. The less occlusion, the more low-frequency sounds leak out of the ear canal. So if there’s more occlusion, less low-frequency gain is needed. That’s why people always complain about music sounding terrible with open domes, but sounding good if they plug their fingers in their ears.

OK, thanks. I was confusing entry and exit of low-frequency sounds.
