Has anyone tried the Roger On? I have the Roger Select, very happy with it, and I’m thinking of getting the Pen. Perhaps the On would be a better choice? Thanks.
On is a newer version of the Pen. Has better features.
Why would you want the Pen that they have stopped repairing (at least in the UK) as it’s so old. Came out in 2013.
Thanks! Just what I needed to know.
The Roger On can be controlled via a myRogerMic App
On the other hand, The pen is still good and can be had, used but still good, super cheap.
Agree that the On is probably a bit better better but -----------
Definitely get the Pen USED as it’s still good but I wouldn’t pay out for a NEW Pen.
I got my Pen for £76, 3 years ago and it’s still going strong.
I haven’t tried the Roger On. I do have the Roger EasyPen and I could not be happier.
What is difference between Roger Pen, and Roger EasyPen? I am looking at purchase of Roger Pen which is minimal investment but if it is say >5 years old tech then might end being an expensive paper weight. This would be for use with KS10.
I will do a search on Phonak about compatibility of Pen with KS10. I do understand that Costco will not program, but I am about to go DIY so that should not be an issue.
Thanks …
Edit to add: Some are selling them new in box. Any idea of when they stopped manufacturing these? Since the Pen needs recharging, my concern would be if it sat in some warehouse for 2 years then the rechargeable battery might be close to worthless and the Pen might just be a headache even if cheap price. Looks like I’d also need a Phonak Receiver in addition; one such as the Roger Neckloop (preferably version 3), correct? Sure would be nice if Phonak website was clearer about the whole Roger stuff, but thank goodness for this forum and its clarity!
Note, the KS10s will need Roger receivers installed in order to be compatible with the Roger Pen.
Thank you Neville, so unlike the Phonak Paradise which I believe is supposed to work with the Roger Neckloop; you are saying that the KS10 needs a receiver attached directly to KS10 in order to work with Roger Pen.
Wow, in my opinion Phonak has some good tech but does a horrible job of presenting clearly what tech will work with which other device(s) and that doesn’t even touch on the various versions for each device.
The Roger Neckloop works with ANY (not just Phonak) hearing aid with a T-coil. My understanding is that sound quality is not as good as with receivers in hearing aids. All the Roger iN compatible hearing aids (Marvel, Paradise, KS9 and KS10) need to have receivers “installed.” The hardware is already there, but some software must be activated. There are other threads on the forum that go into more detail, but there’s basically 2 ways to do this: 1) Buy an iN device that comes with 2 receiver “licenses.” or 2) Buy 2 Roger X receivers with appropriate serial number and using an “installer,” install the licenses.
@MDB much thanks. I’ll do a forum search to figure out compatibility, but for me $bottom line is that in addition to investing in a Roger Pen there are elements of cost to have things work.
Yes, MDB is correct. If you have a style with a telecoil you can run it through the neckloop. You’ll have to have your provider flip on the telecoil program if it’s not on now.
The Roger products aren’t inexpensive. Though, once you have the connection set up in the first place you can then buy them cheap off of ebay and put one on everyone at your family dinner and network them together.
Edma, I got the Roger select for use with KS10, and it didn’t require any additional hardware. I don’t know if it’s the same for the Pen, but at least with respect to the Select the KS10 is identical to the Paradise. I am now thinking of buying the On, and I’m trying to get information on whether it will work as smoothly with the Costco aids as well as the Select did. (Costco didn’t set up the Select for me, by the way. I bought them through the University, paying a couple of hundred dollars extra, and they set it up for me. I would love to find out if I could set up the On, or the On-iN, by myself.
Presumably, they installed the receivers for you.
Yes, once the receivers are in you can connect to any adult line Roger device yourself, which includes the On. You shouldn’t need the On-iN if you are already hooked up to a select. The Select and the On can be networked together, although only for lapel-case use, not for table top use.
Note that the educational line uses different receivers that are typically more expensive and less likely to be what you already have installed, so you won’t be able to connect to the touchscreen mic, etc. However, those who have educational receivers installed can connect to both the educational and adult line.
@corrado and @Edma I’ve mentioned this before: I have the Paradise HA, I have Roger Select iN, I have Roger EasyPen. All of this works great with no additional hardware. The Select iN allows the receivers in the Paradise to be activated. When it is activated, all that has to be done to use the EasyPen is PAIR it with the Paradise. I don’t know but I expect the same would apply to the KS10.
