I won’t rehash the issues I’ve had over the first six months of wearing Phonak Audeo P90, you can read that here. Since that post on August 22, having just received my FIFTH replacement HAs after returning from vacation, the right one then had audio level issues that turned out to be a faulty new HA right out of the box. Because I was quite busy with life and work, I put up with it until October before I got it diagnosed and replaced.I still have random level decreases a few times a week, but I suck it up and tell myself “just 27 more months and insurance will buy me another pair”. Here we are in December and I’m listening to a bit of music on the laptop tonight and the right HA starts to crackle and output decreases substantially. Multiple restarts, same issue. To say that I’m frustrated and angry that I paid $3500 that was supposed to improve my quality of life would be a gross understatement. I’m at a bit of a loss, honestly, and I’m sure my audiologist is getting frustrated as well. I know he’s less than impressed with the Phonak phone support he’s received during our sessions. And I really don’t want to spend another $3-4k on more frustration. In the meantime, it’s back to my old donated, bottom of the barrel Rextons for the rest of the weekend and hopefully get this sorted out before Xmas.
Sorry to hear of your issues with Phonak HAs, but your not alone, plenty of people have had issues along the way to quality hearing, not withstanding the Phonak rechargeable battery fiasco, but why bother with it all like this, if you have a Costco in the area you could get yourself some premium models for around $1600, some are even selling a rebranded Phonak Lumity model under the name of
“Sennheiser” obviously you’ll most likely want to trial anything but those, not sure how much you need to fork out under insurance but as this price it may not matter.
Thanks, tenkan. The problem with Costco is timeline. The closest Costco is 25 minutes away and they are one of the busiest in the province. It took me five months to get an appointment to reprogram the donated Rextons. The next closest Costco is an hour away and they weren’t even sure if they were going to continue to sell HAs. The next closest Costco is 2.5 hours away and they could have gotten me in earlier, but any follow up for the next six months would have to done at that specific Costco. And I’ve had less than genial service the couple of times I’ve had to deal with the audiology department there. My current audiologist I’ve been seeing for years, he’s two minutes away and is detail oriented, which is a good thing with all the issues I’ve had.
Oh okay, yeah nothing worse then having to wait for appointments when you need to be sorted ASAP, so there’s always the option DIY way if your inclined, which is no problem with the models from Costco.
