I am trying understand the target “media speech + mic” & “media music + mic” features. I have my fine tuning in “calm situation” working great, I did have to set the occlusion compensation to weak and I got occluded ear molds which seem to help tremendously vs. the vented molds. But all in my P50’s are sounding great. That is until I linked my phone to the aids. So if I had to guess the media speech + mic is for phone calls? And the media music + mic is for music? Is that a reasonable guess?
The reason I ask is because when I have the app open on my phone and I am streaming a phone call, listening to music, or scrolling thru instagram and the bluetooth connect, I only ever see “bluetooth streaming + mic” in the myPhonak app. So does it autosense between the media speech + mic & media music + mic from the target software? Just trying to understand this so I can fine tune the bluetooth streaming correctly.
I have been avoiding the bluetooth streaming until I was satisfied with the important programs. So I remember in the past, I was able to copy the fine tuning from the calm situation into the bluetooth streaming programs, but for some reason it won’t allow me to do that anymore. The prescribed settings are full of bass/low frequencies and I was hoping to copy the occlusion compensation fine tuned calm situation settings but it simply won’t allow me to do that. I obviously can manual change them but it’s not sounding very good. I was hoping to create a seamless transition between bluetooth & calm situation.
Can anyone tell me how they went about finding balance between the 2 or even educate me a little more about this bluetooth functionality?
AutoSense (streaming) → Media speech + mic and Media music + mic are both for streaming from your phone (or TV connector). AutoSense detects music or speech and switches between the two programs accordingly. However, this can sometimes be annoying if the difference is not detected properly. I suggest therefore making sure that the programming is not too different for the two.
Streaming programs → Phone Call + Microphone is for phone calls via Bluetooth.
To copy settings from one program to another, click on the small arrow-down next to the program and select Use Fine-tuning from… where you can select the source you want to copy from.
For a smooth transition from calm to streaming you also might want to reduce the mics attenuation to a minimum in Streaming → Media speech + mic → program options. So the HA-mics are still active while streaming.
Ok that makes sense. Thank you for the reply. I did try to to copy like you said, it will allow me to select the program i want to copy, but it wont actually apply that copied program for some reason… i feel.like i did this before and it worked but for some reason now its not.
Also you said reduce the mic, I see the factory setting from Phonak is -6db. Is that reduced enough? Or do you think more so?
I tried it right now, yes it somehow works only with some limitations. Meaning it does not copy completely identical. I think it is correcting the gains where it expects differences caused by the acoustics (dome, venting etc.) Also for some programs, we do not want to lose the advantage of the program (f.e. for echo reduction some frequencies need to be reduced to prevent echo)
Reducing the mics for streaming is the opposite way around: -6dB means less environmental loudness than 0dB (mics are reduced by 6dB). To get the smoothest possible transition you could try 0dB. You will fully hear your environment. Anyway, you will still have the possibility to adjust this using the HA’s buttons (balance between environment and streaming sound)
Try what you like the best!
Yeah I’m playing around with them trying to get then to sound alright. If i scroll thru instagram for like a half hour watching videos, my ears are hurting. Cant seem to find any balance. Really it would be great to just connect to phone calls only. I could do without the texts alerts, music and internet connecting to every little thing that pops up. But it appears all or nothing
I was able to get only phone calls to come thru, which is fine since i cant hear the phone without using bluetooth like i was able to with my old hearing aids. I was never able to figure out a way copy settings from my calm program. Even manually entering the gains, the software wants to manipulate it to its liking.
Manually entering does work but it’s such a slow process but the software think it knows better as you say
You’ll raise one number and it’ll change others around it but then click on the number that has changed on its own and it’ll reduce or raise without changing the number you first changed.
The whole process for me took over 2 hours for one ear on one program. It was a case of changing each number and changing them again when the software automatically changed it.
Yeah you gotta start with the 3 band settings then work your way out to 6 band, 10 band, etc. Then go back and nanually change. But target loves to do what it wants.
But if you increased only the soft sounds, the medium and loud sounds would probably mirror that to a degree, thats what happems when i try to increase only the soft sounds anyway
I got thid problem, where i can hear people, men and women, talking great in the middle and background great, but i cannot hear anyone for the life of me, directly infront of me… i cannot figure it out.
