Phonak Naida V90 UP compared to Audeo B90 13 Profound Loss

This is a comparison between the Naida and Audeo aids with high frequency loss. A ski slope high frequency loss, profound.

A couple months ago I bought a set of Naida V90 UP aids and fitted them with power slim tubes and custom soft silicone molds. This set up fit my loss based on an audiogram from a local HIS a while back.
When I started the fitting process with Audiogram Direct I learned my high frequencies did not sound like sound but a painful thump around 120 dB. Once this happened I stopped pushing the painful high dB testing.

When finished with Audiogram Direct I realized my right ear was not hearing sound from 2000 hertz up and my left ear was not hearing sound from 4000 hertz up.

That’s when I realized there is absolutely no need to us a powerful UP aid to drive gains in areas of frequency that can not be heard.

This situation reminded me of what Don is doing with his Audeo aids. So I bought a set of Audeo B90 13 aids to see if I could have similar results that he has accomplished.

The Audeo aids arrived and were set up with power receivers and power domes. Programming started that day. It’s been 3 days now and all I can say is wow. The Audeo aids don’t have quite the bass as the Naida aids but otherwise they are doing just fine. The Audeo aids do a better job of switching between auto programs, not as noticeable.

My last hearing aid appointment a few months ago to try Starkey aids was a huge failure. I wonder if this hearing loss is why the fitting was so bad.

Phonak SR2 does have a reputation as being excellent at frequency lowering.

It has been an amazing change from the past Sound Recover. The SR2 setting is down to .9 kHz at this time and still no lisp s sh sounds. I am hearing sounds around the house I can’t remember ever hearing, not overwhelming, just new. I am also having great conversations on the phone using the Compilot2 as well as the TV using the TVLink2.

As far as speech recognition it’s getting better. Between tweaking the aids and time it should improve.

Not sure if it’s the AutoSense difference between the Naida V90 and the Audeo B90 but I am really liking the Audeo B90 best overall, more refined. This makes me believe the Audeo Marvel aids would be even better.

Very good! I have wanted to try the Bolero because if I go completely off the grid, as far as not having a hearing aid pro, it would be slightly easier/cheaper with a bte instead of a ric, but I’m getting similar results as you are and I’m really liking my Costco version of the Audeo b90.

I use the Compilot 2 for hours a day but the microphone level seems very hot, and the onboard mic scratches against clothing even when nothing is touching the mics.

So, I have a lapel mic plugged into the Compilot 2 and that is better, but it still picks up everything, including traffic outside. I get complaints from callers and folks on webex meetings with me.

However, the phone group at work has located a noise limiting directional lapel mic. Hoping to get that next week and I will report back. But if anybody has any suggestions please let me know.

The comparison between the BTE and the RIC isn’t that bad from a money stand point. The RIC aids are cheaper to buy. Receivers aren’t breaking that often. BTE are easier to maintain. Time will tell.

I have noticed the scratchy mic with the Compilot2 in my pocket or under my shirt during a phone call. I usually pull it out for calls.
The streaming is all new to me, learning a bunch.

Your off the grid comment made me realize I have been off the grid from the beginning, 10 years now. The two hearing aid appointments I have been to in those 10 years were both failures in certain terms. The first one I learned Oticon digital aids could help my speech recognition but prices were sky high. The second appointment with Starkey was a complete failure from a money standpoint and also a hearing standpoint.

Thanks for posting this thread. Had wondered how these aids were working for you, but had not realized DIY posts did not show up in the main forum. Glad to have found this. Sounds like the Audeo B90s are working well for you. Great!

Thanks.
They actually are working very well. With the dead zones and not needing to amplify sounds in those areas the less powerful Audeo aids are doing fine.
The hearing test and walk around Costco with their KS9 aids was good too. These B90 Audeo aids are better tuned for me but the KS9 aids are very refined. The directionality control they have is amazing. Down the road when the Audeo M90 aids become available for a good price on eBay I will be looking.

@Raudrive do you find wind noise to be an issue with your V90 and B90?

I use the Speech in Wind program loads on my Q90 but have since found out that Phonak have got rid of this program in their new hearing aids.

Phonak have also got rid of the music via Roger program which I also use.

I’m thinking of buying another pair of Phonak Brio P-UP (Q90) rather then a newer pair of Phonak hearing aids.

I have been out of town.
The B90 aids are better than the V90 aids as far as wind noise. But you need to know I have not tuned on either of these aids enough to really say one way or the other.
Yesterday I went to Hofbrauhaus that was loud with lots of people having a good time. I could not understand much at all with the B90 aids. Even when using the speech in loud noise program. My son said he had a hard time hearing anything with good hearing.
The phone streaming is not right with the B90 aids. Have to do something there. The V90 Naida aids are fantastic with phone calls. Both the V90 and B90 aids stream TV great.
Just haven’t had time to tinker yet. The KS9 aids sure are tempting me.

My friends and I (all having the same issue with hearing loss and vision) prefere visiting Hofbrauhaus’ Beergarden. But on cold days we have to go into the house and this is really loud. Those participants without CI remove their hearing aids in this location, they are no longer useful in this case.
Have you tried a conversation at Hofbrauhaus without any aid, too? At least your audiogram is simmilar to mine.

Each newer Phonak aids I try they are getting better, more refined. I can only imagine the Q aids do no handle wind and noise as well as the newer aids. The steps are noticeable between the V, B and M aids.

My wife will be getting her KS9 aids Monday I believe. I am looking forward to hearing her reports and opinions about them.
