Phonak Naida to Audeo users

Hello everyone!
I am currently a user of Phonak Naida Marvel M70-SP - battery 13 -, I am seriously thinking of going for the Audeo.
I don’t know when they will enter my country, there is a lot of bureaucracy. I hope they will be available before the end of the year.
I am looking for users who have changed and tell me their experience.
My situation is as follows:
I’m getting tired that the Naida wet the tube and it is without filters because they last me 2 months -the filter is tiny inside the part to connect the mold-. I have a dehumidifier, Dry and Store Global II - the UV lamp burned out and is not available in my country - it works very well. I live in an area with high humidity, but I work inside the building.
Generally the Naida’s have lasted me up to 4 years and then they shut down for good. It costs a new one to fix it.
If anyone has gone through the same thing as me, any advice is welcome. In the meantime I’m sticking with the Naida, until the Audeo’s are marketed.
In case they recommend the Lumity, I have in mind to choose the Audeo Lumity RL Life 90 UP.
I don’t know if between August and December the new Naida is introduced - I would have to wait a year or two for them to come in.
Any other advice is welcome!
Greetings from Argentina!
P.S: The text is translated, sorry my English is not good.

You may want to consider oticon xceed UP. The audeo is not designed for your hearing loss… You also may want to consider getting a cochlear implant eval too…

Naida Paradise are 2 1/2 years old, and counting, I have the Naida P90’s they are excellent aids for profound loss… Xceed UP’s are around 5 years old, so they are outdated by some margin! I would hold off until the next UP aids are on the market, be that Phonak or Oticon? As @ssa suggests, you are probably a prime candidate for Cochlear Implant assessment? I don’t think Lumity, would be a good fit for your loss even with 105db RIC’s? Hopefully a new UP aid will be available in the not too distant future… Cheers Kev

The medical specialist has indicated no. I forgot to tell you that I use my right ear! The left one has been tried and failed. But the only solution is the cochlear, which for the moment I do not want. I manage perfectly well with my right ear.
So, the Lumity is not compatible with the right ear?
Greetings!

As far as I know, new Naida are released every 2 or 3 years.
If my calculations are correct, during the rest of the year, the new Naida will be presented. I would bet on September for the presentation.
Out of curiosity, do you take your Naida for maintenance? I have never had it done. I don’t know what kind of maintenance they do. If you know what kind, let me know. Maybe it’s not a bad idea to have it serviced and if a part replacement is necessary, as long as it can extend the life of the part, all the better.

Hi @Fere, no I have never had a set of aids maintained, I have only had about 3 aids fail in over 30 years, I stick my aids in a drier every night though… I have 3 sets of aids, Naida M70’s SP’s, Marvel 90 RIC’s with 105db receivers, they are not quite powerful enough, and Naida P90 UP… I do occasionally rotate these aids… Hopefully your calculations are correct, and a Phonak UP aid is imminent! Cheers Kev

Good point. i think the next generation of oticon UP is coming soon. they are built like a tank, it does not require any filters or anything like that… I have the trusty Oticon Dynamo as a backup and it is still going strong without any issues unlike my resound hearing aid keep breaking within a year of use… (both the resound omnia and Quattro keep failing within a year of it use or repair…)

Looking at your right ear audiogram I believe you just might be able to use a RIC hearing aid.
Sure worth a try.
Good luck

Dry them without the tubing / ear moulds attached and then the ear hook filter can dry out better.

The lamp burnt out is not for the actual drying part so that won’t make any difference. The lamp for me made my tubing go hard really really quickly.

I hope you get answers about the new hearing aids.

Hello, I have removed the filter from the hook. And I’ve been like this for about 2 months.
I will most likely remove the hook - along with the mold - for better absorption of moisture from the equipment.
This month I have to order a new mold. They usually last me 4 months. A few years ago they lasted me a year and a half. The quality was impressive. But in my country, Argentina, high quality materials are not available. It is sad, I will see if another specialist will try a different laboratory. The tube hardens and shrinks with time, I don’t know if it reduces the listening quality.
Greetings!

@ssa Sorry, I made a mistake when I clicked reply. :sweat_smile:

I used a Naida Q70 for seven or eight years. I upgraded to the Audeo versions in June of last year.

My hearing had been damaged in a hyperbaric chamber in late 2022 (long story) and I needed more power in my aids which led to the upgrade.

I am a pretty mundane user. I stuff the aids into my ears every day. Even though I live in a high humidity area (Houston), I don’t worry about dehumidifying and never seem to have a problem. I generally swap out the domes when the wax guard needs to be replaced.

The audio quality of both aids is exceptional. Even with pretty bad untreated hearing, I hear almost normally with the aids. “Almost” due to reduced speech comprehension caused by the hyperbaric chamber damage. I play guitar and listening to music is pretty good.

Even though I am very satisfied with the Audeo, there are a few negatives.

  1. The new case is streamlined compared to the Naida. This makes activating the buttons difficult. With the Naida, I could just push the buttons, the square shape of the case and larger buttons made it easy. The new streamlined case slips and slides behind my ears combined with the tiny buttons makes activating the control buttons frustrating. I generally just activate the controls with my iphone. That is an additional complication especially while driving a car.

  2. The bluetooth capability is a mixed bag. The additional functionality is nice except when driving. It is very fiddly to have the aids synced to the car now. I used to be able to use the controls on the steering wheel to activate calls synced via my iphone in the car. That doesn’t work with the bluetooth on the phones activated. In addition, passengers in my car, typically my wife, only hear one side of the conversation when on the aid’s bluetooth. That frustrates her.

  3. Bluetooth is power hungry. I also use the size 13 battery. In the old Naida’s, battery life was typically a week. With the Audeo, it is only 3 or 4 days. I know, rechargeable aids are the thing but I find replaceable batteries the best option. I can buy them anywhere and don’t have another gadget I have to keep up with. When the batteries run down, I just replace them.

  4. The new style wax guards are a pain in the neck. The old ones on the stick were easy. The new guards in the round gadget are just fiddly. It is easy to get them in the RIC crooked. You then have to worry about getting the crooked ones out to replace which can be a problem.

  5. After a year with the new Audeo’s, I will probably go with a different brand the next time. The NEXT time is a problem. I am now retired and on a fixed income. I have to purchase aids out of pocket. :frowning:

Hey Jeff!
Good to know certain negative points.
In my case I have used the Naida Q70 SP before. It died in the middle of pandemic and I had to transfer the configuration to the new Naida Marvel. Adjustments were made though.
As for Bluetooth I have never used with the Marvel, only a couple of times and I didn’t like it. I understand that it consumes a lot of battery.
I am very used to the traditional way of answering the phone. I almost never call me, I always use WhatsApp, or another messaging service.
I was also analyzing the possibility of using another brand. Previously I used Beltone. I do not remember which model failed a lot, I had to send to the center about 8 times in a year.
Greetings!
