Phonak Marvel M90 with static red light

Hello everyone!

I was a Phonak Marvel (M90) user (until March 2022).
Because I travel from the US, I have DIY re-program my aid for the last 2 years.
My Marvel lost support in March 2022, and in March 2022, my left aid fail (2018-2022).
Just stop working. If you put in the charger, this go to red light of dead.
The aid do not works. do not start.
I have no support. Plus I’m a long way from home.
My first idea was to change the receiver. I replaced it, but the error continues.

I thought he had died until today.
Just insert the aid into the charger and turn on Phonak Target.
My surprise was great when I see the aid, it is no longer red and the battery appears at 99% when is pair in Target. I Connect, and turn on audio. It works!
Next… I remove from the charger and stop working. The aid is dead, do not start.
Again, I put in the charger and… Red light of dead (first green, next static red)

So the aid is not completely dead and can operate when is connected to the charger and is linked to target.
UPDATE : I check and when is connected to the charger (with the red light), I could pair with myphonak in my phone … Not works, but I could see the aid.

Open questions for you…

¿Could it be a fault with the rechargeable battery? (if so, what order of magnitude could a repair cost, without warranty?)
Is there any way to debug the aids? Any software or tool that allows me to see some feedback from the aid?

Thanks!

Phonak M50-r bought July 2020. Right ha. Exact same thing here… I believe the battery is dead. I expect the samething for left one soon. Bought on Ebay from a seller in India no longer on ebay, of course No luck! Seems that repair is 400$ US. I will try to revive it with applying a steady 6-7 volts for fiew minutes.

Yikes, those hearing aids have the batteries sealed inside. Worse yet, the batteries may be semi-permanently installed (in other words, not removable).

So, apply a steady 6-7 volts to what? Maybe to the two protruding contact points on the outside of the hearing aids? If so, how will you determine the correct polarity (+/-)?

Two of my friends have had similar problems with their Resound Quattro aids, that is the hearing aid would not start up with the software (built in) loaded successfully, it also would not restart automatically or manually, waiting for the battery to be completely drained and then recharged was ok.

@mcruli If your hearing aid doesn’t drain the battery automatically, you can manually discharge it and test if it has voltage at the two charging contacts (3v-4.35v), if so, connect a small discharge load to those two contacts, or open the hearing aid shell and connect a small discharge load to the battery.
Good luck!

@mcruli did you try to do a reset?
(Long press down for 15s, then back to the charger)

You could also use the Target utility to try a factory reset then reload the aid.

I’d be careful with the factory reset. A faulty switch off while doing the reset might lead to problems. But you may get more information regarding your problem if you run the test-procedure in target.

Yes!
And Make a full reset with the target app.

Yes! I do this yesterday.
And I try to reprogram with dummy data, only from this aid

Apply the voltage to the protruding points for a minute or two. Not really easy to do. You can determine the correct polarity by measuring the voltage between the corresponding contact points in the (plugged) charger with a digital multimeter.
I hope it will “wake up” the batteries…
