Dan, exactly a 675, and it seems to last a long time.
WhiteHat - oddly enough, I do not actually need new ones at this point. The Philips 9030 is still good but apparently maxed out in the fitting software. The ReSound is OK with the noted oddities.
Although I’m always looking to hear my wife better I was not actively looking for a new instrument - but they got me to come with the offer of trying a “new” ReSound BICROS rig. What they had to try was a low-powered receiver-in-the-ear that was barely louder than bare ears. Should have walked, but was willing to try Phonak + Roger in lieu of BICROS. I can understand her better but not sure if it is enough to stick with this Phonak or return it and see what comes along in the marketplace.
There is more to this decision than just what it sounds like to me. If my wife perceives me as being unwilling to spend the money to hear her better it will not be a good outcome. If it were a lot better, rather than ‘marginally better in some circumstances’ it would be a slam-dunk.
OK I’m babbling not and will stop. Thanks for the info and the timeline. Will post when decisions are made.
I understand waiting in your situation for sure. I was eligible for new aids in September, but still waiting. I waited until November hoping Sphere Infinio would show up on the new VA contract, but only plain Infinio came. I waited, now hoping for them to be available on the next update in May. If they don’t come in then, I’m not sure what I’ll do. I have a fair amount of equipment in Phonak, and love how their BT works. But I need something newer soon.
I understand your desire to wait for what you think will be better rather than just jumping into whatever they have now.
I am no expert but have had very good luck with BT using all three aids - three year old ReSound, three year old Philips, and this Phonak.
Just for a chance data point I fired up the 9030 and am wearing it now, and my wife has not commented so either I’m hearing her as well as with the Phonak, or she does not notice or chooses not to comment.
The Forum software is telling me to take this to PM - maybe next time.
From my experience that is caused either by using the wrong size dome or it needing to be cleaned. I clean mine at least once a week even though i keep my ears clean. An invisible speck of dust can cause it.
@harley, this is a brand new instrument (no time to collect wax) and she made a custom earmold so no domes. She did correct the “S” sounding like “Sh” with a software adjustment but the aid still sounds ‘unpleasant’ - not sure how to describe it - so I’m giving it back and she is ordering a ReSound that is a later model than my current one.
@peggyc255 - I wore it for several weeks and it did not go away on its own. No TV, just voices and ambient sound, but voices were truly distorted. And she agreed it was the “Sound Recover” setting and fixed it by adjusting that.
