Phonak Lumity vs Oticon More

I currently wear Phonak Audeo Marvels in both ears. They have worked very well for me for over 3 years. Because of insurance issues, I am in the market for a new pair of hearing aids, and my Marvels will become my spare pair. My audio is sold on the Oticon More. He says his patients have all raved about them. Although the Oticon More aids will be less expensive, I have been very satisfied with my Phonak Marvels and am leaning toward the Lumity.

Can anyone share their experience with the Oticon More? I’m interested in speech comprehension. Also, how well do they perform in loud situations? Can you hear the person in front of you when there is a lot of background noise?

I’d welcome anything you can tell me about them, positive or negative. Also, if you are fortunate enough to nab some Phonak Lumities, I’d like to hear your thoughts!

I have the More1 aids and to be honest they have changed my life. For the first time I can understand speech better than I have since wearing hearing aids. Are they perfect? No. But they are so much better for my hearing needs. No hearing aid will be all to give us our hearing back. This is my experience but please understand I have had way more adjustments and readjustments than most would be patient with much less their audiologist. I have to thank my very patient and dedicated VA audiologist.

Thank you for your reply! My audiologist is also a VA audiologist, and he and his patients swear by the More. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question!

There are hundreds of posts on this forum on the Oticon More. Some, like Chuck, find them life changing. Some find them not so different from what’s gone before. That’s the way things go with hearing aids. The More might work better for me, the Lumity for you even if our audiograms are identical. That’s what makes buying hearing aids such a joy (sarcasm alert).

I went to a different VA MC last week than the one I have gone to for the last year (where my comp & pen and initial fitting were done) and was a bit surprised to discover this big audiology clinic staff was all Oticon fans. My regular clinic is balanced. My regular audiologist dislikes one particular brand, but she wouldn’t have been opposed if I’d wanted to switch to the More when I was first trying things out. But my Phonak Audeos were her first choice for me, and it was what I thought, based on my research, that I’d want too. But I was open then because I didn’t then know anything, really, except that BT to a bunch of devices would be handy. Really, I see now, that Oticon would have worked too, if I had been given the accessories like I have gotten with the Phonaks. (Except for the Roger On. Not sure there is anything quite like that…) I’d get by, though, as long as the Oticon’s worked for me, and I think she could have made that happen, too.

I don’t think there is any harm in trying? If you don’t like them, ask for Phonaks. The Lumity should be on contract by November. Try the Oticon’s now and if you don’t like them, the new Phonak’s will be there soon.

Welcome to the forum!

My other thought on the subject is if your audi is getting really good results on the Oticon More, maybe he’s really good at fitting the Oticon More so that’s the one you should try?

Can’t agree “more”, I think that this situation is rehashed so often on the forum it’s obvious very few people bother with the search button, oh well now where were we…

It wasn’t my intent to say that. There are so many Oticon More posts in so many threads and many of them are obscure: self-programming, AI, humorous asides or off-topic rambles. I’m not sure a search would have been useful. As someone who’s been hanging around for a while, I tried to provide an overview which was basically ‘maybe, maybe not’.

To the OP, if I were you, and I can try the More but if I don’t like it, I can switch to the Lumity and there’s no harm done (except for you time investment), then I’d try the More. It’s pointless to ask around this forum because there are a ton of opinions on both sides, and only YOUR opinion matters.

But if you only have ONE choice, to either try out the Lumity, or the More, but not both, then I’d stick with the Lumity because you’ve been happy with the Marvels and if the Lumity is similar but better, why look for a more radical change like the More?

Oh sorry, I didn’t just mean “Oticon” I mean like all brands, people just ask the same stuff that has been asked soooo many times, not you personally, I got your message, I was thinking out loud about others.

I could have written your reply. Life changed here too.

I had Paradise before and was completely underwhelmed after lots of attempts at tweaks.

I was about to splash lots of cash on Roger kit and then tried the More 1.

All I would add is what works for one doesn’t for another.

You need to try both IMO.

My audiologist is going to lend me a More when one of his loaners comes back. That way I’ll be able to “try before I buy.” Thanks for your input. It has been very helpful!

My take is that if you’re going to try it, really try it. Make sure you’re getting it fit to Real Ear Measurement (REM) and that you have time to get used to it. Although audiograms do not determine which hearing aid is best, they do provide some useful information. Including your audiogram would allow a little more meaningful comments.

It is I believe the natural fact that we are all human and so different from each other. Hearing aids have to be individualized for every one of us, we aren’t clones, and we each think and have our own free wills.

I previously had Siemens before I got my current Phonak Marvels. I was absolutely blown away by the difference. I guess I’m looking to be “blown away” by the next pair. My audiologist will soon be giving me a loaner pair of Oticon More to try. It will be nice to “try before I buy.” I appreciate your input!

If the radical change makes a profound difference in my ablility to understand speech, I’m all in. You’re right. I’m going to have the opportunity to try the More. If I don’t like it, I’ll switch to the Lumity. Thanks for your input.

I truly appreciated your overview. I had already tried to sort through the mountain of posts about this subject and had become frustrated. Thanks again.

@tenkan FYI, I wasn’t too lazy to bother with the search button. I had already tried to sort through the mountains of posts. I thought it was easier to ask directly, and apparently I was right. I got some very helpful advice.

I have to wonder why you feel the need to make snarky replies to someone who is only asking for help.

I also believe your comment is wrong for new posters to this forum. I have been here since either 2009 or 2010 and I still find the search function of this forum very lacking. I came to this forum as a IT professional and couldn’t understand the search system of this forum, it is better now but a new person doesn’t deserve the attitude of some on this forum.

Something else I’d like to add. How important is the Bluetooth Connectivity in the Paradise to you? BT certainly isn’t the most important function of a hearing aid, but the Phonak BT and Oticon BT work notably differently. If you use the Paradise with computers, you’ll find you need another device with the Oticons. If on the other hand, the only thing you connect to is an iPhone, you’ll likely like the Oticon better.
