I’ve been using Oticon for years and decided to trial the Phonak Infineo Sphere I90 after all the rave reviews. I’m on day 1 and the bluetooth audio streaming is ridiculously bad.
there is way too much treble, it’s so hard to listen to. No adjustments in the app. The EQ adjustments are not available for BT streaming.
I have self programming device as I’ve done it with my Oticons, but before I break that out, is it even possible to adjust what I"m talking about?
Note: I’m not asking about audiophile quality, I’m just trying to make it sound less shrill and such high treble when streaming audio directly via Bluetooth. I can barely stand listening to it.
You may have success adjusting the equalization of your audio at the source (i.e. within the settings of whatever streaming app you’re using) rather than within the hearing aid itself.
I had similar issues, and you are right, you cannot make any EQ adjusments in the streaming programs, that’s one of the many shortcomings of the MyPhonak app.
In my case the issues were with speech, I usually spend many hours in voice calls (Teams, Zoom…), and after my fist fitting with the Spheres I had to turn them off immediately, the voice quality was really bad, far much worse than with my previous HAs. Then I found out that, for some unknown reason, the Target fitting software had programmed the streaming programs and the phone program with much, much higher bass than I really need. I turned down the bass, and it is all good now. firenzel has already shown you where you can find the streaming program for music in Target, and just above it you can also find the streaming program for speech if you need it.
By the way, I have found that the sound quality is better, at least for speech, when streaming from the TV Connector instead of the direct Bluetooth connection.
I’m in a loaner set of lumities at the moment. These things when streaming seem to turn UP the ambient microphone and it really amplifies the highs. It’s not from the streaming media, it’s what the mics pick-up. It’s crazy, there’s a baseline white noise and anything else is much loader than it should be… walking my dog listening to a podcast and all I can her are my dog’s nails scratching the sidewalk. I found that using the ambient balance to turn down the mics in favor of the streamed audio fixes the problem.
I’m confident that it’s something that can be adjusted in the program and these things just aren’t set up right.
I throw this out because maybe yours are doing the same or similar.
@bobbydigital16 you didn’t mention your acoustics. RU wearing open domes?
BT streaming won’t be listenable at all unless you wear a closed fit dome, or custom mold.
Actually, the whole point of the Sphere is to have a closed fit.
You may be already aware, since you are DIY, and have had Oticons.
The other issue is the sound paradigm between Oticon and Phonak is very different, and most Oticonians who try Phonaks will complain about tinny sound, until the brain adjusts to them.
Good luck joining the Phonakian regime, but always remember the option to test drive the Oticon Intent is always there, and see the LIGHT!
For streaming music from my Android phone, I use an app called Poweramp; this has an 8 band equaliser built in. Between my TV and the Phonak TV adapter, I installed a ‘headphone amplifier and equaliser’ I found on Amazon for 25 euros; this has a 7 band equaliser. Both completely solved the problems I had with getting streamed audio to sound exactly as I wanted it.
@firenzel showed a couple of Target screen shots which should help, and Idk if Target has the same type settings as Genie2 where you can set up power Bass to High in the Phone setting.
My Intents are the best for streaming I’ve had with their new “Smart Receivers”, but I still prefer to just remove my aids, and wear IEMs when I’m out walking. Indoors, I use wired over-ear cans with my aids in, and enjoy music without streaming.
I’m relatively new to programming and my experience in past has been with Oticon and mostly small tweaks related to attempts at controlling feedback.
I got Phonak Target 10 working with my NoahLink Wireless device with my Infinio Spheres. Navigated around the software to familiarize myself, and wondering what I should exactly try to change to help with the music?
Ok so turn off all the features and you’ll find a better sound on BT without SR, you’ve got no “Bass” so some improvement can be had there, turn the microphones down in “microphone attenuation” and last are you using domes or custom molds? If you are using open domes they suck for Bass!
When you say “turn off all the features”, I see “Sound Recovery” which is presumably the “SR” you mention. But what other features? The only other thing on is “Whistle Block”:
Have custom molds. To be clear, I have oticon’s before this with custom molds too, so i’m not looking for bass like headphones, but the Phonak’s just sound soooo thin and tinny compared to my oticons, it’s shocking.
Update: I just disabled SoundRecover2 on the AutoSense Streaming programs and decreased the microphone level to -8dB as shown in my above screenshot. It’s better but still sounds tinny and thin. Esp bad on podcasts, where the voices sound so bad, and the “S” and “Sh” sounds so harsh to me.
Good they are all off already, so whistle block won’t matter much once you set the microphone attenuation to it’s lowest point.
No that’s fine, it’s “software” the App you install on your phone.
Yes that’s it in the UI on that, I think the lowest it -6 now, it used to be 0.
Yep it’s like this on your fine tuning screenshot, so I mentioned before your “Bass” is low, crank it up a bit, with custom molds you should be able to get a bit more “boom, boom”
This is usually SR doing this when set to aggressive, you’ve turned it off and still get this? try dropping some mid to high frequency, or slide the clarity more to comfort in the fine tuning, experiment a bit to see, I use “Power Amp” from the play store for my music streaming, always allow me to find a decent sound, for pod casts I’ve not had any issues, but again you have another setting “Media Speech” which is not just for phone calls, but I’m no longer a Phonakian so can’t say for sure what the sphere models are capable of.
Others will offer their support and guidance.
If you want to adjust only the left side or only the right side you have to seperate the the hearing aid sides with the middel toggel button. See the next picture.
