Phonak Feedback Management

Hi, anyone that self programs phonak aids notice when scrolling thru the automatic programs on target the feedback thresholds change with each program? Anyway to mitigate that? The change between target default autosense programs are pretty extreme and just trying acquire more similarly alike programs than the extreme changes. Thanks for any input.

Yes this is supposed to happen, when you have different outputs for different programs the feedback thresholds will change to suit, it’s not one size fits all, remember you can make an exact copy of a AutoSence program, so in this regard you get your “similarly alike programs”
Again I’d call on @Zebras and @kevels55 who have a bit more experience with the target software.

This has been my biggest battle between what I want to hear, and what Phonak allow me to hear, especially above 1k, where my Tinnitus is. This is especially frustrating when you can boost frequencies in the MyPhonak App, but can’t replicate that in Target. “I don’t get any feedback from those app changes, so why stop me doing those changes in Target?”

I noticed your observation a few days ago when I was looking to reduce the low frequency MPOs in the RogerDirect+mic programme. I saw that the gains seemed higher, especially the G50, so I boosted the G50 gains a couple of steps from 1k-8k, to approximately match the RogerDirect levels. This had the desired effect, as I could hear every question at the weekly pub quiz last night, and doing my usual App adjustment (clarity: +3dB mids, +6dB highs) didn’t improve things this time.

Another measure I always take, is to reduce WhistleBlock in every programme to the absolute minimum I can get away with. That is, bring the slider left to the lowest point where cupping my hand over my ear causes feedback, and removing it stops it. In my case, with my 3 pairs of HAs, that’s either 6 or 8. I reduce WindBlock to zero too.

I can seem to figure out how to copy the calm program and insert it into the speech in noise program, everytime i try nothing happens. Strange.

So close but no cigar. I just have to switch manually it seems like.

And Peter, it sounds like we have similarly done the same things. The wind management is a real miss in my opinion so definitely off on all programs as well. And yeah i can do things in the phonak app that i can’t replicate in the software too… be nice to at least see those in target and manually modify defaults.

Sorry I don’t quite understand, you can add “a new program” of the calm program (a exact copy) so this then becomes an “extra program” 1 of a total of 4 you can have.

Yeah but first you’d need to know exactly what’s changed, the app doesn’t tell us this, the 3 band equaliser just slides up and down with no real information available, maybe if they could offer 5 band or more with the relevant frequencies shown, nice

I dont see a way to add a calm 1 to autosense. I just want 2 autosense programs. My calm, then speech in noise. I turned off the comfort one because that turned on during weird times. The speech in noise is pretty reliable when needed but just so drastically different. The comfort program would be nice but the sensing is weird on it. Not reliable during meetings at work it picks up at weird times and isnt helpful. Now yes i can add a manual calm 1 but wont autosense. Thats what ive been doing. And switching at the hearing aid so i dont have to mess with phone. Would just be nice to have ability to have it autosense.

Yeah so your not adding to AutoSence, your copying one from AutoSence to an extra program, I think I’ll tag @PeterH to explain a bit better, a screenshot to help you ( sorry I haven’t got my laptop with me at the moment)

So AutoSence is available in AutoSence only right, so you make a copy of one AutoSence program ( in your case calm) now this becomes just calm program, it cannot AutoSence because it’s just one program, remember in AutoSence program your HAs switch between different programs automatically, so AutoSence decides which program to be in depending on the environment you are in at the time, read through this which Phonak explains it’s workings.

Hi, here’s some Target screens to help understanding of additional programs and programme options, with my Sky M70s loaded:

Here’s where you add an additional programme. It’s also where you choose a different startup programme, and (if you wish) disable Autosense. With Lumity, I think you can add up to 4.

Here are the choices, and whether you want a linked, or unlinked, copy.

Here’s my flat Music programme, with just the minimum WhistleBlock.

Every element has its own Programme of MPOs and G50/G65/G80 gains. This one is for RogerDirect+Mic, where I’d recently reduced the bottom 2 MPOs, which has improved Roger performance immensely.

Hope this helps
Peter

Yeah i understand all that. I was just hoping i could fine tune the speech in noise program within auto sense to sound similar to my calm program within autosense since they are the only 2 programs within autosemse i benefit from. But the feedback management is significantly different between the 2 that i cannot achieve that regardless of whatever else i do.

I would be nice to not have to manually switch between programs. But for now thats what i am doing. Just trying to maximize the performance but unfortunately i cannot find a way to work around the speech in noise feedback reduction to achieve full functionality of autosense. I’ll just have to continue toggling manually at the hearing aid multiple times thry the workday to achieve the desired programs
