I have been using hearing aids for 12 years. I bought the Phonak Audeo Paradise P90-R model last week. But since there are no salesmen or audiologists who know how to tune in my country, it was torture to make adjustments. I couldn’t hear anything with the tune they gave me. I have noalink myself and made it a bit better.
First of all, there are door sounds, iron sounds, rubbing sounds etc. it bothers me a lot.
I cannot understand the sounds in the office environment. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. The sound of knocking on the table, pressing the keyboard, opening the door is disturbing. Bass sounds are not intelligible. There are many problems like this.
Audigram attached; I would be very relieved if someone like this and is satisfied with the sounds, sends me their own settings.
Hi @Luv-Wasu; Welcome to the DIY category of the forum.
You cannot use another person’s settings because those settings would be tailored to a different hearing loss/audiogram. You need settings that are tailored to your specific hearing loss/audiogram.
Suggested reading; DIY School (02 How to Program Your Hearing Aids). This document talks about Step 3 – Choose (1 of 3) origins for your hearing loss settings.
Hi you’ve come to the right place for help on these issues your having, you just need some further adjustments, but first we need to know what acoustics (domes or molds) your using.
Next what rationale/algorithm are you using.
It seems the loud sounds are set to high for you ,try lowering these in the lower frequencies.
Also a Phonak feature called SoundRelax for those extra loud door slam! you could set that a bit higher (not to much tho)
We have a couple of DIY Phonak expert’s they could help @Zebras@kevels55
Sssh; I forgot about our answerBot policy of not mentioning DIY School. Just click any PVC Avatar to find DIY School. You will find an abundance of information there which is relevant to DIY. Some of our answerBots will never mention DIY School. So just click any PVC Avatar to find DIY School.
I don’t think I would use the word expert with me @tenkan, dabbler more like As for @Luv-Wasu, welcome to the forum Your Audiogram is almost “cookie bite” like, they can be challenging to fit, though not impossible for the average DIY’er, but, it will take you a little time to get a good fit, but I am sure with a little perseverance, you will get there… You don’t say if these are your first hearing aids, if you are, then everything will appear to be loud, it takes time to acclimatize to aids, there is a feature in the Target software, I believe, for new hearing aid users (Although I have never used this myself) I believe it will gradually increase the gain/loudness over a set timeframe… You are in the correct place, and when DIY is your only viable option, @pvc will keep you right, just post up with any questions, and I and many other DIY’ers will try and help you out, if we can… Good Luck, cheers Kev
Hi @kevels55,
Firstly, thank you for your reply.
For example, I reset the device to its factory settings, and when I adjust the audiogram settings, except for some cases, a low but not too bad sound comes out. When I want to increase the volume a little, I don’t understand what people working in the office are talking about, only loud and complex sounds come.
Shoe sounds are very loud.
Sounds of door closing and woods sound loud (I’ll try SoundRelax)
All I want is a clean sound. I guess it will take me a long time to get used to the device and adjust it. Actually, I thought I could do it gradually, but I don’t want to have trouble with hearing at work. Thanks for your help.
Sometimes @Luv-Wasu, what we want, and what we get are 2 different things… Hearing aids do not even come close to restoring our hearing, they assist us to hear better, they are very unlike glasses, that can restore our vision… With hearing aids, you will always struggle in loud background noise, we just have to learn to live with that limitation… In a quiet room, that is acoustically friendly, one to one conversation shouldn’t be a problem, but when you throw, somewhere like an office into the mix, hard furnishings, hard floors, phone’s ringing, high ceilings, distance from whoever you are listening too, with folks chatting away in the background, it’s going to be challenging! Assistive Listening Devices (ALD’s) can improve things, but they are expensive! But in certain situations, they can improve our overall ability to hear conversations, Phonak Roger devices, like the Roger On, or Roger Select are helpful, but you might still struggle in loud background noise… Clarity is what we all crave, but unfortunately hearing aids aren’t advanced enough yet, to deliver that optimal clarity, yes in ideal listening environments, hearing aids are extremely helpful, but I reiterate, in noise we just struggle to communicate, my apologies for being pessimistic, but once you have been like me, I have worn “Ultra Power” aids for over 30 years, realization kicks in after a few short years, eventually you just know, this is your world now, you have to come to terms with it, except it, and try to live with it… Good Luck, cheers Kev
Thank you for your explanations @kevels55 I have a question. Sounds such as the sound of pencils falling on the table, the closet door closing, the sound of the door are very loud. SoundRelax did not fix this problem. The environment I am in is the office and there are conversations from my right to my left. Is there a solution to this?
Could be several things causing the aids to be very loud, what domes are you using, for instance have you filled in the the correct type of domes in the Target software, I assume you used Audiogram Direct to get your Audiogram, did you run the acoustic perimeter tool, what algorithm are you using, I use NAL NL2, it’s very loud, but I am very deaf, some folks find it overwhelming, some folks Prefer DSL v5 Adult, there are about 9 or so different Algorithms/Prescriptions, you might have to experiment with them, and see which one you prefer? In truth, I forget more than I remember @Luv-Wasu, I am rarely ever in the Target software, once they are working to my satisfaction, I leave my aids well alone… Very rarely do I turn the volume up or down, my aids are set to run in the automatic program, and that’s it! It takes a while to familiarise yourself with Target, perhaps many months, before you are confident with it… Below is a link which will give you some idea of how the Algorithms/Prescriptions work, I sometimes read up for hours, if not days in my quest for better answers… Good Luck, cheers Kev
