Phonak audeo marvel losses programming

Hello,

My mom’s hearing aids keep loosing their programming every 3- 6 months. Initially after audiogram and REM the programming is very good. Then suddenly the hearing aids forget the programming and she can’t hear properly.

We had one of her hearing aids replaced. But we are still getiing the same problem.

How to check what program is loaded in her heraing aids? is there any way to restore them to the last program that was done at her audiologist office? I have th target software in my aptop but not the Noahlink bluetooth interface.

Best

Never heard of this happening, in fact I can’t see how it’s possible, I’d think something else is at play here, it’s more likely that your mum’s hearing has changed and/or something simple like maybe receiver or wax filter/dome, wax build up in the canal type of issue.

How can you be sure of this, you’d need confirmation from your clinic to confirm if you haven’t got the Noahlink wireless yourself.

First I’d suggest you have a read of the target user guide before jumping into DIY projects.
Again it’s most unlikely it’s a HA issue, I’m sure it’s something else that’s playing up.

Well It is possible. Right now her hearing aids are so loud the sound on her iphone has to be set the closest to cero the phone allows. The sound of the TV connector also has to be lowered, as well as the TV sound.

You may not know how this is possible, but it happens to her devices constantly. How can wax build up make the hearing aids amplification increase so much?

Sorry but I don’t believe the HAs programming is being “changed” or losing the settings every few months it just doesn’t happen, faulty HAs yes, but the programming is the same regardless .

Sorry I thought you were saying they’re losing gain and not increasing and getting too loud, obviously a blocked wax filter is not going to do that ; )

So this is bluetooth streaming your now taking about right, ok so this a separate standalone program from normal amplification through the HAs microphone, both those settings can be adjusted, for the phone volume from within the phone settings which you already know and/or through the App, seems to me the default volume level is set to high (in the clinics programming) plus the tv connecter has a volume control on the connector, set the level there first plus in the App you adjust.

Does your mother have the myphonak app in her phone?
I am an DIY and programmed aids for eight clients. It is not
possible for the aids to lose programs and hearing aid settings unless the aids are faulty. I have the phone and TV connector and these devices never have been too loud. Has your mother read the user guide of her hearing aids?Perhaps she increased the volume by mistake instead of lowering. Have her ears checked out. You didn’t say which type of earmold or domes she is using. You can post your mom’s audiogram.
How long has your mom been using these aids? Had she used aids before or is she new using hearing aids first time?
If her aids are too loud then they need to be adjusted by her audiologist.

Have you gone with your mother to an appointment with her audiologist?

This issue almost sounds like a hearing aid maintenance problem.
The aids are good for a while then act up. Then they are taken to the fitter and all is good for a while.
Cycle repeats.

If you dont have the Noahlink Wireless, then you wont be able to connect to the HAs. If you get a Noahlink Wireless, then you ought to be able to connect to the HAs and access the configuration/programs in use. However, that won’t help you to establish whether the settings have changed since they were last programmed by the audi. You would need to have the audi check the previous session and compare the current HA settings to that session.

So, on balance, this sounds like your first step is to have the audi check ths HAs out. If you get them working OK, AND have access to the Noahlink Wireless, you would then be able to save the working settings in Phonak Target and go back to those if the problem recurs.

That is exactly what it is: a non ending maintenance loop. And it keeps happening every 3- 6 months. She bought these HAs in 2020. They were fine for 6 months, then started acting up.

Right now the volume settings for the streaming and tvconnector are near its lowest settings and the sound is still loud. It was fine until a week ago, then it suddenly increased along with the amplification itself. This is maddening. I’ve gone with my mom to her fittings to make sure they do REM and listen to what she asks them for.

Its like a computer that resets itself over and over. This whole HA business is a scam. Overpriced devices designed so that you have no control of them. Outdated tech sold only because there is no alternative.

Is the TV connector connected to the TV via the 3.5 analog or with the optical connector?
If it is connected with a 3.5 to the headphone jack on the TV, the volume is controlled by the TV volume … The best way is to use the optical connector then the volume remains constant to the TV connector and the hearing aids.

@aldombr

mhclavey… Your last statement is not necessarily correct. I use the Phonak TV Connector with 3.5mm jack and the TV volume tuning does NOT change the Connectors volume at all. I also have a different TV that uses the toslink connection and it also is independent of TV volume.

@Raudrive the thing I noticed was the first set of HAs had this issue and the OP states they had one HA replaced, but the problem is still happening, this got me thinking that something else is at play, and not HA related.

you are correct … but the headphone jack on most tv’s is controlled by the volume.
That usually also disconnects the TV speakers.

Yeah it’s a pain, never really understood the reason for it, I did see that some TV’s would allow for both within the tv settings.

TV connector in my case uses optical output which has fixed volume. iPhone volume is set to lowest and sound is still loud. And I repeat, the amplification of the environment itself is too high. My question is how can this be explained, specially when one week ago everything was fine.

Forget about TV connector and iphone streaming. The amplification of the HAs increased suddenly (volume control in the phonak app was not changed, yes we read the manual).

Left field question…

Is it possible that the volume up button is sticking?

That’s a great question.

We know nothing about environment these aids are in.

Does mom sweat a lot, does she work outside in the rain and dusty environment?

Does mom use a hearing aid dryer?

Getting loud by themselves seems to be the biggie.

Okay, so what do they say the problem is?

They have no clue. They just program them again and say come back if it happens again. Last time I got so upset I forced them to replace one HA. But nothing works,
