Am new to Phonak Audeo l90; the oticons I had connected easily via the accessibly option in the iOS & I could turn off notifications to the HA but still have it come via the phone. With Phonak the accessecitly is not an option & I have to turn off every notification for everything I don’t want to hear on the HA - which means to audio notifications on the phone. Audiologist said there is no work around. I’m not happy.
Next I still hear the keyboard click when I use the swiftly keyboard but not with the device keyboard and I can’t “draw” the words. so either clicks & drawing or no clicks & no drawing. I don’t like this.
Also there are times when I hear a hissing when I’m connecting & disconnecting from programs on the phone…don’t like this either. Not sure what this is, or how to fix…Sigh.
I don’t like the concept of recharghable batteries; at some point they will stop working & I’ll likely have to buy a new set or get the batteries replaced - is this possible? Is there anything I can do to extend the battery life? for example I have a Dyson vacuum cleaner w/ a lithium ion & they want you to run it to 0 once a mth: conventional wisdom says to not charge your iPhone to 100%, etc.
There are many aspects I do like, overall quality is better than the oticon (level 2); ability to fine tune the program options & save them is very nice.
Widex does work with the accessibly program and is supposed to be the best for music - which is important to me; but the Audi is pushing the phonak’s…price is the same.
so I’ve found more info about the notifications by searching google, interesting the results take me back to this site - which I had searched before posting my original note - but didn’t get any help.
And now another quirk: steaming music from the iPhone. I can’t figure out how to reduce the volume to 0, I’ve used the buttons on the phone, the slider in the music app, the slider for audio on the control screen and the volume slider in the phonak app; none of them buy themselves or all together will get me to 0. Suggestions?
I’ll just comment on the rechargeable battery. Assuming your aids have a 3 year warranty you should be able to have your audiologist send them back to Phonak at near the 3 year mark for free replacement of batteries (quite likely replacement of hearing aids with new ones) If you keep them longer than 6 years you run a decent chance of needing to replace batteries. I’ve heard estimated costs of about $500. Most (but not all by any means) people replace their hearing aids at around the 5 year mark so not an issue (other than that they aren’t useful as backups) To optimize battery life ideally keep them between 20% and 80% charged. (Don’t let run down to 0 and don’t fully charge)
The Starkey Edge AI is apparently available in a #13 battery version. Phonaks work well with Android phones and support old BT protocols. That’s why I bought my Infinio 90s. Almost all the other HAs that I looked at worked better with iPhones and supported Auracast. If I was an iPhone user, I would have chosen something other than Phonak.
