Phonak Audeo Infinio I90 vs. Resound Vivia 9

Hi. Basically, I am asking for some comments regarding which is better between the 2. I hold a Jabra Enhance Pro 30 and was told same technology as the Resound Vivia 9, but rebranded. But between these two, I would like to hear your comments on which one you think is better and why? Although my Audiogram says my hearing is fine, that is not the case. I suffer from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, the hypermobility type, which comes with its own package of problems. I have APD, the right eardrum is hypermobile, tinnitus, tensor tympani and stapedial myoclonus syndrome, hyperacusis, and at times get vertigo. I don’t do well in background noise, as I won’t be able to hear or may mishear when words are similar or blended. I don’t do well with people who are soft spoken or have an accent. When background noise increases, like at a stadium, my right ear gives a broken speaker/white noise kind of sound with pressure buildup. With all these issues, my hearing on the audiogram would drop significantly. I was told I’m a candidate for hearing aids, but I must be programmed with low gain. I appreciate the feedback.

My take is that Costco (sells Jabra) would be reluctant to sell you hearing aids with that audiogram. I don’t think hearing aids by themselves are going to do much for your APD. A remote microphone system might help, but I don’t think anything is going to help in a stadium situation. I’m guessing the person who told you were a candidate for hearing aids also sells them? I would suggest trying to find somebody who specializes in APD.
Regarding Phonak Sphere vs Resound Vivia/Jabra Enhance Pro 30 I think your good low frequency hearing is going to make it challenging for any hearing aid to reduce noise because you’d have an open fit and there’s no way to stop the noise from entering your ear. My bias is towards the Phonak. If you can get a free trial you might as well see for yourself but I think talented professionals are going to be more helpful than any piece of equipment.

Hi, it is an APD Audiologist who told me I am a candidate for low-gain hearing aids. It should not go off the audiogram, because it doesn’t show what happens when I am exposed to background noise. When I did the APD testing, it was a 3-hour exam. As for tensor tympani and stapedial myoclonus syndrome, that too is affected by loud background noise, causing the muscle in my ear to spasm. I was already recommended for surgery, but I don’t have that kind of money to do it, nor does my health insurance cover it. The APD Audiologist doesn’t provide hearing aids, but only does testing. I was told to go to a regular audiologist to get the hearing aid and have them program it with low gain. But besides that, I just need to know opinions between Phonak Audeo Infinio I90 (Non-Sphere) vs. Resound Vivia 9.

Good, I’m glad the advice is coming from somebody who doesn’t have a possible conflict of interest. Between the two hearing aids you mentioned I don’t think it matters (other than Phonak’s Roger system potentially being of help)

They are both excellent and some like one vs the other. I like the Phonak and the Phonak BT ecosystem. But the jabras are probably much, much less expensive. The Phonaks at Costco aren’t infinio, they are believed to be the generation older lumity technology. The only way to tell will be trying them. Costco gives a 6 mo 100% refund, so you could try them while also trying phonaks for a period. The relative skills of the fitters play a bigger role than the tech you buy. Especially in your situation since yours is an unusual case.
