Hello. I recently purchased Costco’s Phonak 312 aids and had the “acoustic” telephone option activated. As I understand it, a land line phone is supposed to trigger hearing a phone conversation through both ears. This option is not the same as hearing via a t-coil program, although that program option is also available. Using 3 different land line phones, I haven’t once heard this acoustic feature come on. I attempted to trigger it by placing a magnet on the receiver, but that didn’t work either.
Does anyone know if this might be a problem with the type of telephone being used, or am I not doing something correctly? Thank you in advance!
DuoPhone is the feature that allows you to hear the phone call in both ears, it might also be known as “acoustic” but my audiologist has not used that term with me before.

Are you placing the telephone receiver next to your right hearing aid? That’s the default side to trigger the program. If you want to use the left side, your audi will have to change the setting. Also, your audi needs to verify that the EasyPhone option is selected. That’s what activates the phone program, be it Acoustic or T-coil. And within the phone program, DuoPhone needs to be enabled.
Phonak 312 does not have the telecoil feature. This feature is only on the 312T version. I believe the “acoustic” telephone option you refer to would only work with the 312T model. Using the magnet on a regular phone works with the 312T but I don’t believe would work with the 312 model. The shape of the BTE aid will confirm which unit you have. If it has a smooth rounded back it is the 312T whereas if it has a rectangular step box back it sounds like the 312.
If you have the T version and the aid is actuated, the magnet on the telephone should work.

“all the way back to the spics platform” I guess you mean Spice.
All the way back, is about 2 years. I think there are still a lot of people using CORE aids, I least I am.
In the US, POTS phone service is on the way out. The demand for a device like this is requires a telephone circuit. The trend is to go to Cellular phones. I see a limited use for it.
(1) What does the EasyPhone option on the Acoustic Phone program do?
(2) What is the Acoustic Phone program without EasyPhone selected intended for? When the program is selected via button, it turns on binaural output from (in my case) the right HA’s mics input. To get binaural output with my iPhone, I have to hold it so that the iPhone’s output is above/behind my right ear into the HA’s mics rather than against my ear into the ear canal. The result, at least for me, is audio that is not as good as when I hold the phone against my ear.
DuoPhone is enabled. (3) What benefit does the program have without it?
I just had the program added to my Brio 312T’s yesterday during my first follow up appointment. I’ve only tried it once. Acoustic means sound coupled. Unless I’m mistaken, there is no magnet required to activate the program. It is loaded on my aids as the first “click” of the button on the left aid. So, when I get a call, I can manually activate the program. As long as the phone is placed so that the microphone on the right aid can hear the sound coming out of the phone the sound is sent to both aids. I believe after the call you need to click your way back to the automatic program. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
This is an update to my previous post. Today, I took several calls at work with my Brio’s in the automatic program mode, and here is what I can confirm about the telephone streaming program my HAS installed two days ago. When I held the phone against my right ear such that my ear blocked the sound from reaching the microphone on the hearing aid, the aids stayed in auto mode. When I pulled back slightly on the phone receiver and/or placed the receiver above my ear where the microphone could hear the call, I got a chirp telling me the aids were switching to the phone program. At that point the call was streamed to both aids. When I put the phone back directly on my ear, I got another chirp telling me the phone program had been switched off. So, going into the phone program occurs when only the right hearing aid is hearing a conversation. It doesn’t require installing a magnet on the phone receiver. It is sound (i.e. Acoustically) activated.
Well… First of all: I have Audèo V90 312. But I don’t know whether is T or not.
When I hold a magnet close to my right hearing aid, it triggers the EasyPhone option and sounds from the right aid are streamed to the left aid. It happens also when I hold a land line telephone, so, the magnet is triggering the program.
