Philips Hearsuite and Oticon Genie 2

I am interesred in comparing these two. So…, I would appreciate links to the latest verson of each. I have the necessary hardware and have been playing with fitting software from other vendors, so it would be interesring to compare.

Thank you in advanc.

When you compare the two I wonder if the Real Ear Measurement shows up automatically from your existing Real Ear Test or if it can only be added with a new Real Ear test at the audiologist office. This seems to be crucial data that has to be entered to get an accurate fitting.

No not really, REM is just another
tool in the tool box, it’s not the
holy grail of fitting.
All settings are entered once
connected, if you make further
adjustments/changes then REM
is supposed to be recalculated,
but if your DIY it no longer
matters.

Is that to say the REM is supposed to be recalculated in the fitting software “automatically” or you have to take another REM test if you make changes or adjustments in the DIY software? While other means of validation, such as speech-in-noise testing or questionnaires can be used if the REM equipment is not available, REM is considered part of “best practices” for fitting.

When changes are made, say, a dome change or a tweak in the programming, the REM tests what is received at the eardrum. That is why they put little microphones in your ears along with the aids. This verifies that what is received in at the levels intended.

Some HCPs don’t do it at all. DIYers don’t generally have the equipment. Lack of REM can be worked around.

Yeah you gotta sit a new REM in the clinic, minor changes you wouldn’t expect to have to do this, but for those of you who believe in “best practices” there’s nothing stopping you from making appointments and paying to have REM done, us DIY don’t bother we can set them up how we like to hear, REM wouldn’t have a clue how we want things to sound…but anyways each to their own.
