This is great news. How does the charger compare to the Rexton Reach in size?
Thanks for sharing this level of details on the 9050 with us. I’m also currently wearing the OPN 1 so I’m very interested in your experience.
The main thing I’m aware of regarding the directionality control of the 9050 is the new 4D Sensor feature that it gets like with the Oticon Intent, and what you’re observing while walking around as you describe is the direct effect of that. How well it can map the head motion into your actual intent remains to be seen. But at first glance, it seems quite rudimentary. I think with somebody who’s more used to the OPN 1 like you and I, we will probably prefer a program that is more truly omnidirectional to match with the open paradigm we’re used to on the OPN, like you’re alluding to in the end there.
I also presume that you already have access to the 9050 whitepaper, based on some of the terminologies you mentioned in your post. I think if you get familiar enough with that whitepaper, it might give you some clues in there to help guide you set up the most optimal parameters value to your liking. Even better is if you can DYI so that you can experiment freely with all the parameters quickly, as I know it might not be that quick to get appointments with Costco
It has been a long wait, but they are HERE!
Al
They are also HERE (Australia)!
I just got the Philips 9050 and I have hands free connectivity with my phone - Google Pixel 8. The Pixels 7,8,9 all have Bluetooth LE connectivity and should work hands free with the 9050. You have to connect the hearing aid and then go into the Bluetooth settings on phone and turn on LE for that device (your HA). Works great! However, the ability to press the button on the aid to answer call did not work. I expect maybe a future update will correct this. It is more important to me that the aids work handsfree with phone. I am ok with using the phone to answer and disconnect calls.
I had no problem returning my 9040s before my 6 mos were up at Costco. I just got the 9050s and they DO work handsfree with my Google Pixel 8 as long as you turn on the “LE” setting in Bluetooth. However, the button on HA does not pick up the call. I need to use my phone to connect and disconnect the call.
Has the button been activated? Does the double tap work?
There is a setting in the programming software that your HCP uses.
Your HCP can set the hearing aids to tap to answer and the button to answer in this programming software.
I too have a Pixel 8 and expect to get a 9050 in a few weeks. Have you tried streaming music with LE? It’s supposed to have richer sound. Also, is your connectivity constant with both the app and your HAs? Does the TV connector work well with the 9050s? Hope you can answer some of these questions. Thanks!
They set it but did not work
I don’t have have the TV connector. Just trying to listen to music - no it is not richer. I will need to work on adjusting the equalizers. I just got them today so I have not experienced connectivity issues but have not worn them a lot yet.
Jane_M, thanks so much for your experience with the 9050. I’ve been waiting for a review just like yours before I decided on which HA to get. Tried the Jabra and it was terrible with connectivity and android phone. Can you comment on whether understanding regular speech was equal to or better than the 9040? Also, have you had a chance to test them out in noisy environments? Thanks a lot.
I guess I have not had them long enough to comment on that yet. Other than in Costco, I have not had them anywhere noisy yet. So I can try to remember and come back and comment after a week. The only other aids I have had were the 9040s and I did not wear them all of the time because I need to use my phone a lot and be able to be on and off the phone with ease. For some reason the clip on mic did not work with my phone. So this is an incredible improvement because it is hands free with my phone. I think I need to adjust the sound more and get used to them more. Right now, things are tinny and I can hear my clothes, footsteps, etc. I think I need time to get used to them and evaluate in a variety of locations.
I think you will have to wait for an update to the hearing aids. I wonder if they are waiting for android 15.
You have two equalizers in the app. Try adjusting the high frequency gain in the non-streaming app down 2 db to see if that helps any with the tiny sound.
If that doesn’t help, try increasing the mid-frequency gain and test. Try increasing low frequency gain.
If you can get things dialed in with the equalizer, then you will have something for your HCP to work with in your next appointment.
Can any Canadian member her tell me if they’ve shown up here yet? My insurance is rolling over in two weeks, and I’ll probably at least trial these.
I had the same problem testing a pair at Costco with a Samsung s23: hands free yes, tap or punch button, no luck.
I had my first fitting of the 9050’s today. While it’s only the first day, they seem to be doing a great job.
I can confirm that I have hands free functionality and also have the press button and double tap function to answer working fine.
Pixel 8 Pro and Hearlink firmware 1.1.0
So far, so good.
It is exciting to hear that LE Audio is working on more phones and hearing aids now. Finally hands free with Android that does not need to be only Phonak.
Just a thought, there’s also an option in the app under Hearing Aid settings that needs to be toggled on.
Pete, thank you for the update. A few questions;
- How do the 9050s perform in a noisy environment? (Take this as an opportunity to take your partner out to dinner at a noisy restaurant)
- How effective are the HAs with the head turning focus feature and attenuating background noise?
- That menu screen for Hearing Aid settings: is that something only on the Pixel 8 Pro, or is it a Hearlink firmware feature? I do not find a similar screen on my Samsung S24 Ultra.
- How effective are the Philips domes that fit in your ears? I’ve only have used Resound and Jabra domes.
- Battery life? Full day of use?
