Hi, i’m new to this, so forgive my ignorance. I recently got my first HA: Oticon Intent2, which i’m now trying to pair with my MacBook Pro M1 2012 running on Sonoma 14.4.1. So, from all i could find out, it should work, yet, it doesn’t. When i go to SystemsSetting>Accessibility>HearingDevices, it picks up my HA but the “Connect” button remains pale and i simply can’t click it.
Does anyone have an explanation for this or, even better, can offer a solution?
It’s temperamental to say the least. I have MacBook Pro M2 and Oticon Intent 1. While they do pair, the connection is iffy so I just don’t bother trying. It’s been like that since they introduced it but it doesn’t really work very well.
You just need to remove them, and then put them into discover mode, and then pair them. Make sure you aren’t connected to any other device.
I hope Apple spend more time on accessibility for hearing aid users than they have done recently. MFi was broken for three months with iPhone 15 Pro models, and they advertise that you can connect to their MacBooks yet that’s quite flaky. Really hope they improve for the next models including introducing LE Audio.
I saw this list of compatible M1models.
“[7] Available on MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021), MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021), Mac Studio (2022 and later), and Mac computers with M2 chip.”

Dear WhiteHat and dear ToriNi,
thanks for your inputs. I saw the list of compatible M1 models and mine should tick all the boxes, yet it can’t take the last step to connect. Maybe i just have to wait for another update.
The BlueTooth connection on my cell phone (Galaxy A33 5G) works but it’s also shaky at times. However, i do like it a lot when it works. Hence i’m keen to get the laptop connected as well. Patience is a virtue they say…
You have to put the hearings aids in pairing mode for it to be visible on the MacBook. Make sure your other device bluetooth is off if not the hearings aids will reconnect to the last connected device. Pairing modes are typically available in the first few minutes after rebooting the hearing aids. And remember if you want to connect back and forth to the devices its a manual process of disconnecting one and reconnecting to the other
I’ve been using my Macbook Pro M1 with my Intent 1 for almost 1 month now without issues. To initially pair them, turn of the bluetooth on your phone before pairing them on your macbook.
From the Apple site, this is what worked for me when I trialed the Oticon Intent:
Pair hearing devices with your Mac
Before you begin, make sure your hearing devices are charged and within range of your Mac. If your hearing devices are already paired to another nearby device, such as an iPhone or iPad, make sure Bluetooth® is turned off on those devices. (When you finish pairing your hearing devices to your Mac, you can turn Bluetooth on again on those devices.)
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu
> System Settings, click Accessibility
in the sidebar, then click Hearing Devices. (You may need to scroll down.)
- If prompted, turn on Bluetooth.
- Power your hearing devices off and back on again. If you’re not sure how to power off your hearing devices, refer to the instructions that came with them, or check with the audiologist who helped you set them up.
- When your hearing devices appear in the list of available devices, move the pointer over them, then click Connect.Pairing can take as long as 60 seconds—don’t try to stream audio or otherwise use the hearing devices until pairing is finished. When pairing is finished, you hear a series of beeps and a tone.
You need to pair your devices with your Mac only one time. After that, your hearing devices automatically reconnect to your Mac whenever they are on and in range.
Does anyone else have issues with the streaming not being loud enough? For mine, seems that the aids are picking up as much external noise as they are streaming on my Macbook. If I use the Apple Accessibility setting to turn up - it just turns up everything - not the streaming. Any ideas?
