Oxygen cannula and hearing aids are incompatible

My husband just started using oxygen. The cannula that goes from nose and over the ears is totally incompatible with his BTE hearing aids. The HAs just fall out of his ears. And add to that the problem of glasses and a mask when necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I’d talk to the people who supply his oxygen. There are alternative to the loops over the ears. I did a quick online and one option is special glasses frames that let one skip the tubing over the ears. Depending on his loss, one option might be ITE (in the ear hearing aids) It will likely take some trial and error, but I’m convinced you can come up with a better solution.

I’m an RT, get this daily :slight_smile: There are several ways to suspend the cannula OVER the ears instead of on them. Skin breakdown is a common problem so your DME should be able to fix you up without a problem. We use tracheostomy ties at work. Also, look and ask how people around you fixed their face masks to keep the ear loops from rubbing. Same thing only different. need to clarify - strap goes over the crown of the head, velcro goes around the cannula.

I found something that I think will work. The clips attach the cannula to a cap thus avoiding the ears. They’re called O2 Ear Buddies Oxygen Cannula Clips. Seem to do the job.
