Probably a design issue either sw or hw in the aids. They didn’t test them in that condition.

I can’t provide an answer but I can suggest a couple of things to check. I have no experience with Exceed or CROS but do with Oticon OPN, OPN S1, More 1, and Real 1. There have been communication issues with all of them and Oticon has released a number of firmware update for each platform to improve connectivity. All of my aids have had reboot issues, mostly, but not always, when streaming. Updates to the firmware typically made them less frequent but did not fix them. My Real 1 aids (less than 1 year old) are better but not what I would consider reliable …
I would suggest you (if you have a Noahlink Wireless and Genie on a Windows computer) or you audi verify that you have the latest firmware for both the Exceed and the CROS. In my experience, the Oticon apps (at least on iOS with the ON app or the newer Companion) can show the version in my aids but does NOT correctly show if that is the most recent available for aids.
Previous experience with older iOS and current firmware in the aids has led me to power down my iPhone and restart it in order to minimize connection issues, especially with the app, over the course of a day. I have no idea if the newest iOS (18) has improved things. Reminds me of software development on early Windows versions with buggy Windows and Windows device drivers for EXPENSIVE hardware for motion control and data collection - reboot often
In my house I can’t turn off 2.5 GHz in my router as I have a number of 2.5 GHz only devices on-line. WiFi, Bluetooth, non-Bluetooth LE like Apple’s mFI, and a variety of other devices share the small frequency band around 2.5 GHz for ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) non-licensed RF devices. There are lots of restrictions for things like transmit power and effective radiated power but I have seen devices like WiFi bridges and range extenders that don’t seem to meet the rules. So if you have anything non-standard like a highly directional antenna on your router or a bridge with the same, you might test without those additions. Note that Oticon (and other MFi hearing aids) use low energy bluetooth (and non-standard Apple protocols) where Phonak has typically used normal Bluetooth. The transmit power from a hearing aid is probably about 3 orders of magnitude less than that from a router running the maximum allowable power (1 Watt) from a 2.5 GHz ISM device. So interference is a possible issue.
Good luck finding and fixing things …
@biggar - Thank you for the additional information!! That explains it - low energy bluetooth. I can live with once or twice a week rebooting. It is much less and I hardly notice it anymore until it happens. I just wish it wasn’t a thing. And I certainly wish Oticon would go to Standard Bluetooth like Phonak uses. There would be no further problems.
Additionally, thankfully, I don’t use any exclusively-2.4 GHz devices for my router either. Everything that connects to my router in my house is backwards compatible with 5 GHz for a reason.
Then you would be complaining about the low battery life of the aids. Oticon I believe has the righ answer with Bluetooth le audio sbsn connected to devices that support le audio and auracast. My Oticon INTENT aids connected to my Samsung S23 phone has great connectivity and great battery life. Since my phone received the latest updates it has proven to be great connectivity and no dropping connectivity and no rebooting of my aids. And my aids haven’t been updated to the latest firmware update. And full hands free is working too.
@cvkemp - I don’t think your comment is fair. I’m not complaining just to complain here. I have been screwed over by Phonak royally in the past, when they stopped producing the UP line that’s compatible with the NAIDAs for some fool reason. Leaving me without hearing aids to replace mine with, and being forced to find another audiologist + hearing aid provider that has the NAIDA-like transposition feature + wireless CROS UP Setup with disposable batteries. Also, I stated that I never had a problem with Phonak Bluetooth when they were working as intended.
I think it’s worth asking why Oticon has the problem of rebooting randomly. Now, and I will reiterate: that the rebooting randomly is much less since I turned off the 2.4 GHz signals on my router.
You may disagree and become annoyed because from your experience, you have no issues. I’m happy for you that you have no issues. As for me, I’m allowed to talk about my experiences with my hearing aids. Even if they are different than your successes. Also, many others have had issues and they’re allowed to talk about their issues too.
I have been wearing Oticon aids for 14 years and absolutely love the Oticon sound, but not necessarily care for the app. I don’t prefer Oticon because of the app or even the connectivity. I love Oticon aids because, I can hear with them without the need for extra programs and while I like having connectivity I could live without it and would to have the level of hearing with my aids that I have. I have been on this forum since I believe 2009, and connectivity has been an issue for as long as I have been on this site. Connectivity issues aren’t going away any time soon. But hopefully Bluetooth le audio and auracast if it is universally adapted will help, but there will always be updates and upgrades that will cause Bluetooth issues. And both Google and Apple had a bad habit of making "improvements " without notifing the hearing aid companies, in time of making firmware updates to fix the issues. I am a retired IT professional and this has been a problem and a sore point when multiple organizations are involved.
I wasn’t necessarily say you but humans in general want something to complain about.
@cvkemp - Thank you for confirming that the issue doesn’t exist on some aids. Would you be open to brainstorming some ideas here? I am wondering where you might be getting your batteries from. Since the 2.4 GHz change I made to my router didn’t eliminate the problem completely (only somewhat improved) I wonder if there is something wrong with the Rayovac batteries I have been purchasing from Amazon.
My aids are rechargeable. The other question is about the location of your router. My router is very high next to tje ceiling and my router has both 2.4 and 5gig enabled and I am not having any issues with connectivity at my home.
I did have some reboot issues earlier when I was having issues with an earlier update to my Samsung s23 phone but once Samsung fixed the issues I was having my connectivity issues stopped and so did my reboot issues. My Wifi network is a mesh setup with a main device connected to my cable modem and an extension device in my office. The unit in the house is at ceiling level, and the unit in my office is just setting on my art drafting table. The connectivity between the two devices is a 2.4gig signal, while most of my devices are set to 5gig. But I fo have some older devices that are 2.4gig only.
@cvkemp - I will keep things updated here based on my continued testing and findings but there may be something to the battery issue. I was using Rayovacs that were supposedly the size 675 and size 312 that I need for my aids but when I put the new Power One batteries I just received in there was a noticeable difference in how they fit in the hearing aids. They felt tighter. Almost as if there was a 1 mm or less difference in the size of the batteries. Barely noticeable unless you have them side by side to test. But definitely noticeable when you change from the Rayovacs I got to these. I can’t explain it. I have no idea if this even did anything. But we’ll see how this works.
When I was usung disposable batteries I almost always used Power One batteries and always 312s.
@cvkemp - Good to know. There is also a very subtle but still noticeable improvement in the overall sound in certain areas that were lacking. Including through my CROS. Voices are perfect now. It would be pretty funny if all this time these reboots were being caused by an incapable battery that, for all intents and purposes, was labeled correctly as being the battery I was supposed to use.
My P90 Phonak Cros reboots every 5 minutes connected to my IPhone. I hooked them to an Android and haven’t had a reboot in 5 days now.
@RCU316 - It’s not my iPhone. It’s something else. And I’m having a hard time narrowing down what, exactly. But, we will see what happens with the new batteries. So far the signs have improved, but we’ll see how things pan out within the next few days.
P.S. I will never switch to Android regardless. I hate Android.
I used IOS for about 10 years and it was okay. But I am a retired IT professional that started out way back before Windows, Linux, or Apple, and my favorite along the way was UNIX, well Linux and Android which is a off shot of Linix is my favorite. But you know what made my career for me was Windows because there was always something going wrong with it.
My thoughts to you is to use what you prefer even if it doesn’t always work out the way it should. By the way I left IOS because Android became the most stable connectivity for my Oticon aids, and I am back home.
I understand that. I’ve fooled with Android now for 3 or 4 years but IOS has been my main system 15 years or more. But I’m like cvkemp and a Linux user for years and like to see what both offer. To be clear I’m using both now as I have the time to tinker with them.
New Battery Updates:
It has been two full days since I switched to the new batteries Power One VARTA Size 675p for my Oticon Xceed, and Power One Evolution Size 312 for my CROS unit. So far:
Who would have thought using Rayovac batteries from Amazon would cause grief like this.
I’m still not out of the woods yet. If I haven’t had a random reboot by Wednesday 10/2/2024, I will be in the clear and I can consider it solved.
Sadly, it is still not solved. Just had a random reboot. Sigh. 4:45 pm 9/30/2024
Okay. I have an appointment with my audiologist at the end of the week to have my aids repaired under warranty.
I feel like I should have gotten hearing aids that actually freaking WORKED out of the freaking BOX from the start, instead of having to go through this random rebooting crap first.
Oh, well. At least it should hopefully finally be fixed.
Well, that was short-lived. I had my first reboot with my loaners Thursday, 10/17. At first, I thought it was because I was inbetween a doorway for 20-30 seconds. Because the next reboot happened the next day Friday (10/18) at around 7:30 p.m. when I was in between another doorway for 20-30 seconds.
Sadly, another reboot happened this morning 10/19 around 10:45 a.m. in a similar, usual place as usual when it happens.
Ugh. So frustrating. It’s happening every day now.
I know I will be telling my audiologist. I just don’t know what’s going to happen here…
