Oticon re-chargeable battery replacment

My hearing aids are Oticon - Opn S 1, I need to replace my re-chargeable batteries. They instruct you to take it to a professional to change the batteries. Is it not possible for me to buy the tool to open the door and change it myself ? Doesn’t seem that it would be complicated to do. I assume the battery is a 312 ? Would appreciate comments and recommended battery brand. Assume as well, I can buy the batteries on Amazon. Thanks

You might find the batteries on eBay. I have the OPNS1 rechargeable aids as my backups, and the More1 rechargeable as my main aids. I don’t worry about getting replacements seeing the VA takes care of my aids.

I think they need to update the aids to tell them they have new batteries. Seems strange to me.

@user226
How old are your aids? What is the current runtime compared to when they were new?

Yes my audiologist had to enter the serial numbers of the new batteries into Gene2.

I wonder what happens otherwise?

I suspect they will not function, much like the software locks on printer supplies that are illegal in some places.

Your Audi needs to do this:

  1. Charge the batteries first; The batteries may be in battery protection mode (see Tip below) thus you need to prep the battery in the charger before attempting to use the new battery. After using the charger to disable battery protection mode, then Connect your hearing aids in the fitting software.
  2. Select which new battery (Right or Left) for entering a serial number
  3. Enter a new battery serial number, enter anything, it’s just record keeping, I would choose a date (20220101 or similar), then repeat and enter the serial number for the other side.
  4. Reset battery statistics. This guarantees accurate daily usage Beeps.

Thanks for the replies. I am a veteran as well. These are “other” hearing aids I have had as a back-up since 2020. My new veteran hearings are coming in early March.
I purchased these before I received VA benefits.

VA will do this for you!! Even though they are a backup pair. They understand backup HAs. I believe they will do it even though it’s a self purchase.

ETA: Does your VA location provide same-day care clinics that offer routine care “on-demand” for hearing aid services? If so find out the clinic hours and then just walk in and ask them to replace the batteries. It may be as simple as that.

Yes, I had planned to ask the VA to change the batteries in my back up hearing aids.
Appreciate your responses.

You should not have to get the batteries yourself the VA should provide them to you.
My VA clinic insures that i have my main and backup aids in good working condition and adjusted to my hearing loss.

Unlike the Sonova where they need to solder (its a nightmare) they are replaceable,
But since the batteries could be subject to recall, they need to ensure they know where
each batery is at. I suspect the issue of Genie is more of tracing in case something bad happens.
