Oticon OPN S1 hearing aids keep dropping Bluetooth on iPhone 14 Pro Max iOS 18.5

Several weeks ago, even before iOS 18.5 was released, my Oticon OPN S1’s started dropping the Bluetooth connection to my iPhone all the time. Sometimes it will stay connected for several hours, but usually it disconnects within a few minutes. It’s the left HA that seems to always disconnect first, followed within seconds by the right HA. Have forgot and repaired multiple times. Have made sure my iPad Bluetooth was turned off and my HA are not paired to any other devices in the house. iOS and HA firmware are latest. Can’t think of anything that has changed, including any new Bluetooth or WiFi devices. The batteries are 2.5 years old but still last all day and Genie 2 indicates they are in good health. The HAs are 5 years old.

Update: The right HA hasn’t dropped Bluetooth at all since I replaced the left HA speaker. The left HA Bluetooth connection comes and goes and the left HA frequently reboots on it’s own. So the symptoms have changed since replacement of the left HA speaker. Thinking about buying new batteries. Any other ideas?

I just changed the control buttons in Genie 2 to allow the rocker switch to change the volume. Now I notice the volume keeps going down with a beep on the left HA until it’s at the lowest setting and then the left HA reboots after that. Now I’m thinking the rocker switch it’s working correctly which is a hardware issue. Is this repairable?

Try to clear all pairing memories of the hearing aids in Genie 2, and then re - pair the hearing aids with your iPhone.

Thank you, I tried that several times as well. I just turned OFF spatial sound management to see if that makes a difference since the left HA seems like it’s triggering the disconnect. It’s been over 30 minutes and no disconnect. Will report back tomorrow.

That didn’t work, dropped again.

Could it be a battery issue even thought Genie reports they’re in good condition and they last all day?

Are you able to try a different phone to see if it stays connected or disconnects all the time?

That way, you’re ruling out or ruling in one of the issues.

It might not be related to the hearing aids and could be a phone issue?

Was your iPhone made in India? There are rumors that iPhones made in India have Bluetooth issues.

iPhone 14 Pro and Opn s2 here. Had a similar problem for awhile. Sometimes rebooting the iPhone solved the problem Later, my audi changed the connecting wires to the speakers. This solved the problem. She believed that the wires are an antenna for the Bluetooth and can develop an issue.

I don’t have another iPhone, but I did pair them to my iPad and had the same results.

Box indicates it was assembled in China.

Have an old pair of speakers where the right speaker stopped working so swapped the left speaker. After a few minutes the left dropped Bluetooth but the right didn’t this time. So this did make a difference. Rebooted the left HA and it connected again and then disconnected after a few minutes. So maybe it’s the left HA that has a problem. Will see if the right doesn’t drop today sometime.

Watched left HA after reboot and when it drops Bluetooth it blinks green twice then red twice then green twice and finally red twice again. Couldn’t find what this indicates.

Well the right hasn’t dropped all day and the left connected again about an hour after it disconnected and has stayed connected the rest of the day. Seems like changing the speaker made the difference. Will see what happens over the next few days. Thanks to everyone for the help!
