I compared the NAL-NL2 on P1 and Oticon VAC+ on P2 on my OPN S1 aids and came to the conclusion that the NAL-NL2 was superior for speech understanding for me.
After your posts, I became intrigued with what I read about DSL-v5a. So I just changed my programs to have DSL v5a on P1 and NAL-NL2 on P2.
Immediately I could distinguish a distinct improvement in speech understanding (intelligibility?) using the DSL v5a (subjective of course).
Many thanks for alerting me to the possibility and recommendation to use this formula with adults!
It certainly works with my hearing loss at any rate. I think a lot more studies could be conducted to investigate the use of different formulas for different degrees of hearing loss.
Yes, overall I notice DSL to have less gain. I have had to increase my TV volume a few notches from where I was. But the overall quality seem better ā less harsh. Bumping up gain is an easy adjustment that your fitter can do with the software. I have not felt the need to do that though.
I use VAC+ in my default OPN program for most of my use, but when I run into a challenging speech in noise situation, I switch over to a program that has DSL V5.0 Adult. I also have an NAL-NL1 program, but I find the DSL V5.0 Adult giving me the best speech in noise intelligibility. But VAC+ still sounds the most natural to me.
