I have a set of Oticon OPN 1 Hearing Aids I bought back in 2016. Everything is fine with them except that last year, the App on my phone would not connect to them and it said they needed a firmware upgrade. Additionally, I would like to make a few high end adjustments to them. I can’t find anybody in SW Washington that can program them as they say they are too old. So, I am being left with doing it myself. I saw somewhere that a wired connection is required to program but can’t confirm that versus a blue tooth connection and I don’t see anywhere to plug in a wire connection to them. Oticon was no help at all and said there is no way to get the old App back.
What hardware and software is needed for these hearing aids so I can update the firmware as a minimum and get them to work with my phone again. Any ideas on where to buy the hardware and software? Thanks…
Yes, the Opn’s need a wired connection to the computer running the Genie software in order to update. The interface you need to do this is a Hi Pro along with the appropriate wires and also an adapter thingy to attach the cables to the hearing aids.
This hardware is often listed on eBay but it can become quite expensive for something that you only use once to update the firmware in your HA’s.
I am in the same situation and I have been wondering if I could find a sympathetic audiologist/clinic/HSP who could this for a small fee.
Here’s some links for you:-
Crazy as, for all the hassle you’ll go through just to do a firmware update, forget about using the App or getting the HiPro and cables a complete waste of time, just get the Noahlink wireless programming device, but can you get a few more $$ together and update those very old/obsolete OPN! like pushing 10 year old tech just makes no sense, eBay has some good deals on later models or even better pop in to your local Costco and get premium models for around $1600, you’ll be able to use the Noahlink wireless for just about any late model HAs plus update the firmware, in fact most Apps for the later models allow updating through the App now as well.
Better option might be cheaper is to buy a Noahwirless, it can also be used for other instruments. The new ones, are not program with cables (except for the OpnSPP)
