Oticon OPN 1 vs Oticon Real 2

@jim225 Did you pay any taxes, customs taxes, local taxes?
Or were they all included in the shipping cost?

Since you are a US based.

Thx

Edit:
Ear mold for the Xceed needs to be taken on site or at an Audi, unless if you can do a 3D scan of your ear and send the file to a specialist.

I asked before I ordered, from UK, I do not pay VAT because I am in USA. Shipping is already figured into the price.

I figured, but I did find these for 9.86 a package of 10, on ebay, to test the Xceed , when I order the Xceed. I found a pair of Xceed 1 up on ebay for around 500 for the pair.

@jim225 $500 a pair!! that’s a good price :+1:t3:

The Oticon OPN S1 PP BTE are the same as the Xceed but at little better didn’t realize these were for mild, severe, and profound too. OPN S1 PP BTE have the Spatial Sound™ LX: 4 estimators the Xceed does not other then that they have similar features. I can get that one on ebay for 400 for a pair on ebay.

I have no feedback on the OPN 1. I copied my programming over from my orginal OPN 3 it did not have enough noise reduction. I use a custom ear mold which goes deep in the canal that is 105 db with an 8 mm hole. In noisy situations it is still hard for me to hear. I think I need to move to a BTE. My audiologist sold me the OPN 3 in 2019 with the same severe to profound loss. I did not know then as much as I know now about hearing aids. I feel like she did not get me into the right HA. It was more about making the sale then getting me the right product.

I was looking to get a good price on ebay HA now the the Intent 2024 model is out. The more I research now I think I need the Oticon OPN S1 PP BTE or the Xceed. It seems to me the first one has a few more features over the Xceed.

The problem I find buying used is audiologist don’t even want to help you with even getting ear molds around here. Even if you are paying for the ear molds

Yeah that’s crazy, I mean it’s a service that’s offered, it’s like refusing to sell consumables just because “you didn’t” buy your HAs from us, it’s pathetic really.

One hearing aid office said I would need to pay them 400 because I was not one of their clients. Then the office said they would tell me the price for the ear molds after they take the impressions, on top of the 400 for no reason fee. Unless I was buying new hearing aids, they do not want to sell me ear molds essentially. This is why all hearing aids should be over the counter. Visiting an audiologist only if you choose for them to program the hearing aids. They should not be part of the sales process. If you buy a cell phone, that has way more technology than any hearing aid, no one refuses to sell you accessories. You never hear I’m sorry you didn’t buy your phone here so I cannot sell you a set of ear buds.

Yeah that’s unacceptable, $400 is also on the high side but probably including the receiver’s, it’s hard to understand… but there’s actually a few forum members that make their own molds! Let’s see if I can find the posts.
Ok I found this.

Really quick because I am running out the door. The 400 was for being a new client that was it. Ear molds would be for a BTE no receiver in the ear and they would only give me that price if I paid the 400 dollars to be a client. Then what ever they charge regular customers for BTE ear molds like for the Xceed.

Also if I wanted hearing aids programmed which I got from some where they wanted 400 and HA plus 250 per HA adoption fee. Thats 1300 for my own HA plus the 400 client fee plus the molds. In another words buy new HA from them.

Thank you for the information. I do not think I will make my own. I just have to keep looking for an audiologist who is not going to charge 400 for not being their client (new client charge) and buy ear molds. I would expect to pay with out the speaker in the molds it should be less than 150 each probably more like 100. I need the ones pictured below without the receiver if I am going to buy Oticon OPN S1 PP BTE off eBay then I can program the HA myself. The ones pictured below I bought from Hearing Life, two of them for 500 with 3 year warranty. It should not be that much for ones without speakers. I will not pay a new client charge though.

Yeah that’s all pretty outrageous really, but I’ll leave you with “DIY” is your friend in situations like this.

Even 400 for two ear molds would be a little high, I would probably pay that amount. It is the additional, 400 new client fee, charging for being a customer that is the outrageous part. That would be 800 dollars for some epoxy resin molded into shape.

My local university Speech & Hearing Clinic had no problem picking me up as a patient after I left my previous audiologist. Within a few months, they ordered custom molds from Oticon for a very reasonable price. I think that these university clinics are an overlooked resource. They always follow best practices and their audiologists are normally excellent.

I do not think NH has any.

Mass eye and ear has about 20 locations, many not too far from the border. I found their service excellent. I use VA now because it is free and my audiologist worked at mass eye and ear before going to the VA. She knew some of the staff who did my exams at MEE.

Southern NH is a bedroom area for commuters into Boston where there are a handful of such university clinics. Same at UMass Amherst for folks in SW NH.

I know Mass Gen-Brigham has started putting clinics in NH, but I couldn’t find any MEE clinics in NH.
