sonic = bernafon = Philips are all channel free
Will the toaster fly like the ones in flocks on my Mac IIci in the early 90’s? Those were cool. Great time waster.

I assume @SpudGunner has at least jet engines in his. No more bird wings.
@prodigyplace ; @WhiteHat Inthink Apple didnthe toasternthing just to demonstrate tonthe PC crowd that tha Apple chipset had computing power to spare for “nothing” applications like toasters …
Sometimes I think the HA makers are playing the same game with connectivity: they have “power to spare” for lots of stuff that has nothing to do with hearing, so it’s not the engineers’ fault that you still can’t understand speech in noise with their latest flagship devices…
It’s rhe fault of your age-addled brain!
The software company Berkeley Systems did it, not Apple.
My client bought hundreds of licenses to save our monitors. Heh. Yeah that’s why they bought them, not some young jr executive’s desire to sexy up the computers his bosses were getting, all the way up to senior executives. And in those days executives didn’t touch computers, their admins did. It wasn’t unusual for the admins to print up the emails, present them in a pile, and then type in the responses handwritten on the paper. It took a while for them to get the sense of loss from the waste of time involved. But damn, those toasters!

@prodigyplace: Such hair-splitting spoils the fun, Bruce.
I ran it in Windows. I guess you had a Macintosh.
I just wanted to confirm my failing memory, Jim.
@prodigyplace: I apologize: I thought the toasters were exclusive to Apple.
That link I posted says there was a DOS version too.
What is DOS, Bruce?
They just announced the “Real” based on the More’s. Introduced in Europe, coming here soon. I have no info.

What is “channel free”?
I felt too ignorant to ask that question. I’m glad someone asked it.

Dirty operating system
DEAD Operating System.
From Bernafon.
Bernafon’s proprietary signal processing adjusts the gain
20,000 times a second and amplifies each phoneme individually.
Bernafon’s Channel Free technology has been an innovative approach in the area of signal processing, Developed and exclusively used by Bernafone in its hearing aids, it endlessly attunes the gain of the hearing device to augment every ‘phoneme’ independently. Importantly there is no as such channel or band division at any level.
Back in the early 2000, Digifocus anybody? Bernafon change its signal processing some time in the early early 2000 there was this product called SWISS EAR, a nice red looking hearing aid with the Swiss flag.
The idea is that after the sound was sample, bernafon DID NOT divide the signal in frequency channels.
By not doing so, they have an ultra fast process which preserved the fine details of the speech signal.
The Swiss ear -did not had noise reduction and it was either loved dearly or hated- I have seen people
hating more than loving.
fast forward 20+ years YES bernafon still uses the same concept SO DOES sonic and Phillips (note the specs) they report BANDS not channels.
The Lower end Bernafon for example the nevara and the cheer sound nearly identical.
it has more than 23+ years there nothing innovative there.
Chip speeds have increase to a point that channel free does not make sense at all.
Never like the sound of Bernafon and Sonic, they are very subpar instruments
