Oticon More 2-Way Hands-Free Streaming for iPhone and iPad

the Mac is totally different hardware up until just lately, and the OS is also. I am with you it would be great if Apple would just turn the Mac in to a IOS laptop with all of the IOS options for apps.
And as for as hands free goes for me I think it is useful but there are going to be times that I would not want to use it and just use the iPhone mic. I am beginning to think that I am glad that more than likely I will not be able to get the firmware update until sometime after the first of May. That way I can be ready for what crap hits the fan over this update.

hereā€™s the updates brief

if you triple click the top right button on your phone, there is a new option at the bottomā€¦ ā€œInput Optionsā€ā€¦ You can select from Automatic, Left, Right or offā€¦

I assume this is to control the two-way hands freeā€¦ which mic to useā€¦

Ahā€¦ that is the IOS native Hearing Devices accessibility menu. I think its safe to then assume that there will be an equivalent in the updated ON app whenever that happensā€¦

Many thanks for the feedbackā€¦ maybe Iā€™ll do thisā€¦

That sounds great I am hoping someone tries these options and reports on them.

I should also add, the published news release stated iPhone 11 or better for 2-wayā€¦ I am on a XS Max, and the option is thereā€¦ so it most certainly appears to expand to more older iPhone platformsā€¦

More than likely that is the only phones that Oticon checked out.

Iā€™ve downloaded the new Genie 2 2022.1 and I donā€™t notice any control for selecting either hearing aid mic or phone mic for use as mic in phone calls, so I assume that what @jrmorgis is seeing here is the way to select those options, on the iPhone and not in Genie 2, which makes sense.

yes, your correct I am observing this on my phone (XS Max)ā€¦ I havenā€™t tested it, or have I seen the new Oticon ON app pushed out yetā€¦

Obviously with the selection option available only in the MFI menu, it can probably deduced that itā€™s an iOS feature and not really an Oticon-specific feature per se, but Oticon has to program their HAs to make use of that feature, hence the necessary firmware update on the More.

I would almost venture to say that if Oticon wanted to, theyā€™d probably be able to add the option to make use of this iOS feature on the OPN and the OPN S as well. But itā€™s probably not in their best interest to do that because they want to motivate OPN and OPN S users to upgrade to the More, so this is probably an opportunity for it for Oticon.

The OPN and OPNS are no longer showing on the Oticon website as an option, but the OPN ITE is still available

Iā€™m sure HA mfgs donā€™t want to give patients an option for older models at a lower cost. Thatā€™d be shooting themselves in the foot. Theyā€™d rather sell patients the latest model at the full retail price. If any discount is to be had, theyā€™ve already priced it out into the multiple tier offerings.

This could also be because the feature is only applicable to the Polaris processor.

From what I have read that is absolutely what it is.

Maybe, maybe not. I guess if we see other HA mfgsā€™ brands/models start supporting hands-free 2-way streaming with the iOS MFI using the HAā€™s mic just the same as the More, then itā€™s probably more likely that this is an exclusively new feature offered by iOS MFI, and it does not require the HA mfgs to have to pre-plan it into their latest platform ahead of time. In that case, they simply just have to update their HAsā€™ firmware to be able to make use of this new MFI feature.

Having said this, I do recognize that the most recent Oticon announcement today in this thread did mention that Oticon models from the Polaris platform can enjoy the 2-way hands-free streaming. But thatā€™s not the same as saying that the Polaris platform was designed specifically for that and the Velox/S platform wasnā€™t.

Thatā€™s the point.
The OPN & OPN S are no longer being supported. No more Velox!

Bluetooth in any of itā€™s versions requires two to tango. If you really do the research it takes not only the hardware, aka the Bluetooth chip. It also takes the correct firmware and software for everything to function correctly.
I expect from what I have read and the talk I have had with my VA audiologist that people are going to be disappointed in battery life of their More aids after the update if they do very much hands free calling. And from what my audiologist said just updating to the new firmware is going to have a battery life expense to it.

So Chuck, if there are no bug fixes (the shutting down & muting, to name a couple) thereā€™s not much upside in updating the f/w.
Especially for android users like me.

From what my audiologist said there are some connectivity fixes and generally fixes. Like he said he really doesnā€™t know what really has been fixed.
