With all there online hearing aids popping up online, are they worth it and do they do what they say? For example, Vevo cic hearing aids…
my first pair of hearing aids were bought on line back 15 years ago and it was the worst thing I every did. But then again I knew nothing about hearing aids or what to expect from them.
How does a “hearing aid” that doesn’t require a hearing test work, exactly? Sounds fishy to me…I tell my Dad this all the time…if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. These companies I think exist solely to take advantage of folks who don’t know better.
The worst part is someone will try this first and be dissatisfied and then give up on hearing aids all together. People typically have waited 7 years before trying hearing aids, the last thing we need is something to make them wait even longer.
My second set of aids (Blamey & Saunders) were bought online. They were a lot better than the GE Resound aids they replaced at about a third of the price. Unfortunately I don’t think they had the size to get real traction with their products. They still don’t offer Bluetooth and their prices are no longer that competitive- especially when compared to Costco or Specsavers. It seems that they are now just a testbed for their new owners Sonovo to develop their own online marketing strategies.
I’ve bought on line for my elderly mother from audicous, upload the audiological report and they program. She is in a nursing home. seemed like the best option. They are owned by phonak, made by hanaston, seems like a fairly good product. They seem to have good service and were cheaper
I bought my Sound World Solution Companion hearing aids online about 5 years ago. The Bluetooth performance is perfect. No auxillary device is required for any connection. The cell phone application is perfect. I am still waiting for a hearing aid with better speech clarity but may never find it.
I had Audicus aids (Hansaton Sorino) that I wore for 5 years and they served me well. Now, however, they are no longer competitive with their pricing. You can get more HA at Costco (which is what I did) for the same money.
true – Costco is pretty competitive on price – I did get a 20% discount so it wa definitely cheaper than Costco, and I cannot take mom out for purchase or servicing. Dr. Cliff recommends a couple of different options available at amazon.,
Is it true that Sound World Solution just close? They are the first online hearing aid with Bluetooth funtion. But products haven’t update for years. what a pity…
Yes, their product is amazing! with programming kits.
Did you go back to those? I thought you moved on to one of the big 5’s.
I think they were amazing but their development stagnated. Their self-fitting programming didn’t change from the match-the-tones paradigm. I mean it worked reasonably well, but they could have increased the number of tones, augmented it maybe with other approaches. They just didn’t see the value of Bluetooth- apparently still don’t. Their prices crept up and everyone else’s crept down and they weren’t ‘disruptive’ anymore. The Facett aid could have been a game-changer but it was expensive and their new owners thought it was either unprofitable or a threat to their own lines.
Having said all that, I’d still love to try out their 92 channel aids just to compare to my Oticons. I would have loved to see them stay in Australian hands and I would have loved to see what they could have done with a bigger R&D budget.
I tried the ReSound Preza 861 hearing aids at COSTCO. Speech clarity was good but there was no direct connection Bluetooth to my Android phone and Windows Computer. Feedback with custom molds was terrible.
They have a new, smaller hearing aid listed on their web page that uses rechargeable batteries. It appears to have nothing else new:
Hearing Aid – HD75
$280.00 – $500.00
- 45 Day Money Back Guarantee!
- Free Customizer App for Android & iPhone
- Presets on the device also provide easy, no smartphone needed adjustment
- Size 312 non-rechargeable battery – Up to 3.5 days of use per battery
A buddy of mine bought the Preza aids at Costco too. He absolutely loves them but his hearing loss is not as bad as yours. He carries a new iPhone so Bluetooth works great with his aids.
Right. The Kirkland Signature 9’s/Phonak Marvel will do what you wish. In stereo even unlike your Sound World Solutions. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t steer you to them if you had asked about connectivity to Android. I can’t speak to the other issue you mention.
My buddy that bought the Preza aids at Costco was told the KS9 aids would be a bit under powered battery wise. The 312 battery wouldn’t hold up long enough for the bigger receivers needed for more hearing loss. His hearing loss is not as bad as member6. So, this may be why some people are not getting the KS9 aids. I don’t know if I agree with this but I see how it could impact the hearing aid happiness factor.
Just realized I am off topic, sorry.
